The Associate Director of Development at Alonzo King LINES Ballet is a key member of the Development Team and contributes relational and fundraising skills to support the work of the Director of Development (DoD) and all fundraising efforts at LINES Ballet. This includes working in close collaboration with the DoD to develop, manage, and execute strategies and work plans; researching and identifying corporate and foundation funding sources, and developing grant applications and proposals. This position requires excellent written and communication skills; a strong understanding of fundraising practices and principles; high level of attention to detail combined with the ability to be flexible, take initiative, and work collaboratively. Knowledge of the Bay Area arts funding community a plus.Alonzo King LINES Ballet is a contemporary ballet company that has been recognized world-wide for the artistic excellence and bold imagination of its founding choreographer Alonzo King over the past 35 years. the mission of Alonzo King LINES Ballet is to nurture dynamic artistry and the development of authentic, creative expression in dance, through collaboration, performance, and education.JOB DESCRIPTION:The role of the Associate Director of Development is to work closely with the Director of Development to support the fundraising goals of AKLINES Ballet; strategize, develop, manage and implement the institutional and corporate giving program for Alonzo King LINES Ballet; write grant applications and reports; and steward relationships.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:GeneralWork in collaboration with Director of Development to manage and execute fundraising strategies and work plansRepresent AKLB to donors, patrons, audiences and in the communityMaintain the Institutional Fundraising Calendar, including deadline oversightMaintain Individual Fundraising and Communication calendarWork closely with Marketing staff to develop printed materials related to fundraisingContribute to maintaining processes that ensure accurate and up-to-date gift processing, gift entry, records management, and donor acknowledgementsParticipate in the development, planning and execution of special eventsWork closely with all members of AKLB staff and volunteers to achieve the organization’s goalsInstitutional GivingDevelop grant applications and reportsResearch, identify, manage corporate and institutional funding sourcesDevelop and compile background information on current and potential private foundations and corporate fundersFacilitate site visits for prospective fundersCorporate SponsorshipDirect the stewardship of Corporate SponsorshipsDirect the creation of proposals for corporate foundation solicitationsOversee the fulfillment of promised sponsorship benefitsDonors:Assist the DoD with the following:
Identify and research giving capacity for major donors among current as well as prospective donorsMaintain background materials on current and potential donors
Create solicitation strategies for portfolio of donors tying donor interests to LINES Ballet’s funding priorities
Cultivate donors and prospects through ongoing personal communication and correspondenceSolicit major donor prospects, create proposals/presentation materials following appropriate cultivation periodSteward major donors through recognition in printed materials, appreciation events, and other activities as appropriate
Track progress through hard files and in Salesforce databaseAnnual GivingAssist the DoD with the following:
Manage all aspects of direct mail solicitations following each San Francisco Home Season (2x per year)Conduct other project-specific mail campaigns throughout the year on behalf to the Dance Center, BFA, Trainee, and Summer programs
Oversee the timely execution of all donor acknowledgements (letters, special letters, and thank you phone calls from Board of Directors) and the fulfillment of all-levels giving benefitsOtherAttend all LINES Ballet performancesPositive, can-do attitude is a mustAligns with LINES Ballet core ideologyAble to juggle multiple tasks and projects simultaneouslySelf-starter, able to be comfortable working with minimal supervisionLove of dance is a plusMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Excellent fundraising track record and growth mindsetExcellent verbal, written and presentation skillsKnowledge of the arts and the Bay Area funding community a plusProficient in Salesforce database, Excel and WordPREFERRED SKILLS/QUALITIES:Proactive initiative and problem-solving skillsResponsive and resourcefulAbility to represent the organization and its values in a professional mannerTeam playerTo apply:Please send a letter of interest and a resume addressed to Rachel Ash and Development Committee to rachel.ash@linesballet.org.
