MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Classify and properly label samples by using Joint Commission guidelines which require two Patient identifiers on all specimens submitted.
2. Prepare samples for testing using various laboratory equipment.
3. Interact with Clients and Patients in a professional conduct.
4. Perform all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations.
5. Maintain workspaces in a neat, organized, and properly supplied manner; properly store documentation and paperwork.
6. Clean and sterilize equipment and work area.
7. Responsible for pickup, preparation and transport of samples from site to laboratory.
8. Handle infectious biological specimens, caustics, toxic chemicals and/or irritants appropriately and safely.
9. Follow all HIPAA, JCAHO, state, and federal laws and standards.
10. Responsible for special projects and assignments on an as-needed basis.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Identify patients’ demographic information, clean and sanitize the skin, and extract the required amount of blood/specimen for all tests ordered by Physician. Full knowledge of test collection requirements.
2. Transport samples using centrifuging and refrigeration, as well as other preservation techniques ensuring that samples are correctly logged during the intake process.
3. Utilize navigation apps to find the most optimal route, ensuring that vehicles have sufficient gas, are always ready for use, and report all non-routine maintenance issues while following safe driving policies as set forth by the State.
4. Update daily/weekly/monthly mileage records as required.

EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:

1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Completion of a blood collection, Medical Assistant or similar training program preferred.
3. Nationally certified in blood collection desired.

EXPERIENCE:

1. 1 - 2 years phlebotomy experience.

OTHER CRITERIA:

1. Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record; copy of driver’s license will be required.
2. Usage of personal vehicle may be required; assurance required that the vehicle is maintained in good condition. Maintain minimum car insurance, as required by Florida; copy of insurance card will be required. Will be reimbursed for mileage based on accurate representation utilizing forms provided.
3. Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
4. Ability to lift 40 pounds.
5. Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
