MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Classify and properly label samples by using Joint Commission guidelines which require two Patient identifiers on all specimens submitted.
- Prepare samples for testing using various laboratory equipment.
- Interact with Clients and Patients in a professional conduct.
- Perform all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations.
- Maintain workspaces in a neat, organized, and properly supplied manner; properly store documentation and paperwork.
- Clean and sterilize equipment and work area.
- Responsible for pickup, preparation and transport of samples from site to laboratory.
- Handle infectious biological specimens, caustics, toxic chemicals and/or irritants appropriately and safely.
- Follow all HIPAA, JCAHO, state, and federal laws and standards.
- Responsible for special projects and assignments on an as-needed basis.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Identify patients’ demographic information, clean and sanitize the skin, and extract the required amount of blood/specimen for all tests ordered by Physician. Full knowledge of test collection requirements.
- Transport samples using centrifuging and refrigeration, as well as other preservation techniques ensuring that samples are correctly logged during the intake process.
- Utilize navigation apps to find the most optimal route, ensuring that vehicles have sufficient gas, are always ready for use, and report all non-routine maintenance issues while following safe driving policies as set forth by the State.
- Update daily/weekly/monthly mileage records as required.
EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a blood collection, Medical Assistant or similar training program preferred.
- Nationally certified in blood collection desired.
EXPERIENCE:
- 1 - 2 years phlebotomy experience.
OTHER CRITERIA:
- Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record; copy of driver’s license will be required.
- Usage of personal vehicle may be required; assurance required that the vehicle is maintained in good condition. Maintain minimum car insurance, as required by Florida; copy of insurance card will be required. Will be reimbursed for mileage based on accurate representation utilizing forms provided.
- Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds.
- Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
