Behavioral Health RN

Description Job Summary * Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice Essential Functions * Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment * Documents patient care given * Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family * Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation * Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs * Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances * Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient * Maintains a safe environment for patients and staff through continuous monitoring and intervention Organizational Expectations * Self and Staff Development * Completes general and organizational unit specific annual requirements and certifications * Attends 75% of staff meetings * Consistently projects a positive professional image through appearance and behavior Nonessential Functions * Has a willingness and ability to perform additional duties and responsibilities in different areas of the department on as-needed basis or as determined by management * Demonstrates the philosophy of team concept * Participates in group projects and staff meetings with suggestions that enhance the work environment and increase productivity Leadership Capabilities * Follows established hospital and unit specific policies * Exhibits willingness to resolve problems as they arise Qualifications License/Certifications: * Licenses: RN * X Basic Life Support (BLS) - within 30 days of hire * Handle with Care required within 30 days of hire * Certification in Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training within 30 days of hire- required (Handle with Care) Work Experience: * Minimum of 1 year of patient care experience in a hospital setting preferred * Minimum of 1 year of previous experience in behavioral health unit preferred Skills: * Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision * Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
