Boston Medical Center (BMC) and the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (BUCASM) are jointly recruiting a Chief of Thoracic Surgery. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished surgeon, respected for clinical excellence and nationally recognized for innovation and scholarship.
Applicants should have experience serving in a leadership role within a school of medicine and/or major teaching hospital and appreciate the importance of collegial decision-making in an interdisciplinary structure. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop strong, collaborative relationships across the recently expanded Boston Medical Center Health System (BMC Health), which includes BMC as well as our community hospitals, St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton, Mass. and Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, Mass., and will provide strategic direction to grow overall volume in the Division of Thoracic Surgery.
In addition to providing the highest quality care across the full spectrum of benign and malignant esophageal diseases, lung cancer, and mediastinal and pleural diseases, the Division of Thoracic Surgery places a high priority on the training, education, and mentorship of general surgery residents and medical students.
BMC, BMC Health’s flagship institution, is a 514-bed academic medical center located in Boston’s historic South End. The largest safety-net hospital in New England, BMC provides exceptional and accessible health care to all. BMC is also the primary teaching affiliate of BUCASM, a highly ranked medical school. BMC and BUCASM are committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive workforce.
Dedicated to urban and international health, BUCASM is recognized as a leader in groundbreaking medical research, and BMC is the second largest recipient of NIH grant funding among all safety-net hospitals in the nation. The Department of Surgery has a strong record of clinical, outcomes, translational, and basic research activity.
Boston University conducts a background check on all final candidates for certain faculty and staff positions. The background check includes contacting the final candidate’s current and previous employer(s) to ask whether, in the last seven years, there has been a substantiated finding of misconduct violating that employer’s applicable sexual misconduct policies. To implement this process, the university requires a final candidate to complete and sign the form entitled “Authorization to Release Information” after execution of an offer letter.
Candidates should forward a letter of interest and CV to Maureen Demmert via email: Maureen.Demmert@bmc.org. Please include “Thoracic Chief” in the subject line.
