Job Summary: Crossroads Christian School, a private Christian school dedicated to nurturing students academically, spiritually, and athletically, is seeking a passionate and committed Middle School Tackle Football Head Coach. This role involves leading and mentoring student-athletes, ensuring their development in both football skills and Christian character, while fostering an environment of faith, respect, and teamwork.
The head coach will be responsible for overseeing the middle school football program, planning practices and strategies, and guiding student-athletes to grow in their faith while excelling in the sport.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Coaching: Lead the middle school tackle football program, including planning and conducting daily practices, developing drills, and providing hands-on coaching during games. Ensure that athletes develop technical football skills and a deep understanding of the game.
- Faith Integration: Embed Christian values in coaching practices, using football as a tool to cultivate discipline, integrity, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Provide spiritual leadership and encourage athletes in their faith journeys.
- Team Development: Build a positive, inclusive team culture that focuses on mutual respect, accountability, and growth. Foster relationships with athletes to encourage personal and athletic development, both on and off the field.
- Game Strategy & Preparation: Develop strategies and game plans for each competition, preparing athletes physically and mentally for all games. Ensure that all players understand their roles and responsibilities on game day.
- Safety & Player Welfare: Oversee player safety by ensuring proper equipment use, teaching safe playing techniques, and enforcing health protocols. Monitor and address the physical and emotional well-being of athletes.
- Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for players, parents, and school staff. Provide regular feedback on player performance and maintain clear communication with all parties regarding schedules, events, and expectations.
- Program Management: Oversee the logistics of the football program, including organizing practices, securing equipment, managing team rosters, and coordinating transportation to games. Maintain accurate records related to attendance, game results, and player progress. Schedule and run clinics and identify opportunities to strengthen and grow the program with new and best practice ideas.
- Collaboration with Athletic Department: Work closely with the Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, and other school staff to ensure the football program aligns with the school’s mission, vision, and academic calendar.
- Additional Duties: Coach a minimum of one other sport in the football off season.
Qualifications:
- Christian Commitment: Must be an active member of a Christian faith community and able to model Christian principles in coaching and interactions with students and parents.
- Coaching Experience: Previous experience coaching youth or middle school football, preferably with some background in tackle football. Experience in a head coaching role is highly desirable.
- Developmental Ability: Ability to cultivate relationships with learners and families, starting and growing a new program.
- Football Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of football fundamentals, strategy, and game rules. Ability to teach and explain the necessary fundamental skills to develop safe and proper techniques. Ability to teach and explain complex concepts in an accessible and encouraging manner for younger athletes.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Strong leadership skills with a passion for mentoring students both in sports and in their Christian faith. Must be a positive role model for student-athletes.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively work with athletes, parents, and colleagues.
- Certifications: First aid/CPR certification required. Successful completion of a background check required.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years coaching at the high school level, preferably as head coach.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Master's Degree, preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the field for extended periods during practices and games.
- Must be able to lift and carry football equipment and demonstrate drills to players.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and during school breaks for games and practices.

Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Able to set up and participate in activities, which may include squatting, climbing, bending, and lifting.
