Summer Camp Program Director
at YMCA Camp Marcil, you'll play a pivotal role in creating a dynamic and engaging environment where every child thrives! Your days will be filled with excitement as you manage the overall operation of our Summer Camp. Manage all program areas and overall safety of each activity while overseeing 20-20 staff from all over the world. You will also be the point person to the Center's week of camp to make sure unforgettable memories are being made with our campers and volunteer counselors and directors.
Must be available beginning April 2025 through September 2025. This is a residential position: room and board housing will be provided for the duration of the program, and must share supervision duties at night.
What you'll do: Furthers the mission of the camp through the planning and delivery of activities/programs that are safe, fun, and appropriate for the camper's ages and abilities. Responsible for the organization, delivery and quality of the summer sleepaway camp program. Creates a positive camp environment for all participants and staff. Creates the plans and implements schedules for guest and staff and has a variety of administrative duties. Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Plans, assigns, and directs staff and volunteer work. Monitors and updates all required staff certifications. Addresses complaints and resolves problems. Promotes and incorporates the YMCA five core values and character development model into all program activities. Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events. Organizes and schedules staff meetings. Compiles program statistics. Reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Plays an active role in continuing to identify ways to improve safety standards. Uses problem-solving skills to make quick decisions, instruct, evaluate, supervise, and recognize the potential for danger or injury. Participates enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning, and leading those as assigned. Delivers and supervises evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions. Assists in the planning of any special events. Assists in the day-to-day upholding of camp and dining hall procedures, and housekeeping standards. Assists in duties such as camp host duties, kitchen patrol or office help.
Specific program areas this position will be responsible for overseeing: Adventure: Outdoor Survival Skills, Hiking & Exploring, Outdoor/ Open Fire Cooking, Fitness, Astronomy, Orienteering. Aquatics: pool & lake lifeguards - Candidates must have current lifeguard certification or must obtain lifeguard certification prior or during staff training (must show very strong swimming skills and be able to demonstrate all strokes efficiently). Arts & Crafts: General Arts and Crafts, Drama/Theater, Drumming/Musicians, Sewing, Jewelry Making. Athletics: Soccer, Archery, Yoga, Dance, Zumba, Aerobics, Mountain Biking, Ball Hockey, Badminton, Pickleball. Challenge Course: Candidates should have former experience and/or certifications in High Ropes, Low Ropes, Teambuilding, Zip Lines, Climbing Tower. What we're looking for: Minimum age of 25. - Bachelor's degree from a four-year College or university in recreational management, physical education, or related field or two to three years related experience. CERTIFICATIONS
