The role of the Career and College Promise (CCP) Advisor is to intake, advise and register CCP students from assigned high school(s).
The CCP Advisor receives supervision from the Director, Career and College Promise. Examples of Duties
Work with high schools to intake new students at COA and maintain appropriate documentation. Ensure compliance with state and local regulations impacting assigned advisees. Provide advisement and registration to CCP students. Perform degree audits to ensure students are taking correct courses, to ensure CP students are in the correct programs of study and to ensure CCP students are progressing towards COA graduation. Maximize the enrollment of CCP students at assigned high school(s). Serve as a liaison between the college and assigned high school(s). Provide information and assistance to continuing and prospective CCP students/parents. Assist the Director, CCP and high schools in creating and maintaining a CCP recruitment program. Participate in professional development activities to stay current on procedures and changes. Disseminate transfer information to new and current CCP students as needed. Assist the Director, CCP with Career and College Promise reports. Collaborate in a positive manner with high school guidance counselors and other high school staff. Assist students, instructors, SSEM and other college resources to identify and implement the best available solution to academic problems and/or concerns for the CCP population. Assist in the coordination of annual CCP Meeting. Assist the Director, CCP and the Director, Admissions and Recruitment with recruiting/transitioning dual enrolled students to adult students. Other duties as assigned by the Director, CCP.
Typical Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Human Services, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university. Two years' experience in student services at the high school or college level. Preferred:
Master's degree in Education, Psychology, Human Services, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university. One year of student advising in a college or high school setting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
College of The Albemarle's programs of study NC high school curriculum and related qualifications for admission to post-secondary institutions Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations (including, but not limited to, ADA compliance and FERPA) Microsoft Office Suite, with specific knowledge of Excel Preferred: Datatel/Colleague, Informer and myService College and state policies regarding CCP Ability to:
Understand and apply federal, state and local policies, laws and regulations. Balance competing priorities. Be attentive to detail; perform accurate data entry and clear and concise report generation. Interact effectively and patiently with high school age students and their parents/guardians. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Present information in a professional manner to both small and large groups of students, parents, and other educators. Work effectively in a team environment, as well as independently. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Identify/analyze issues, problems, concerns and needs. Develop, plan and implement appropriate responses and solutions. Be proactive and solution oriented. Develop and document procedures and processes as directed by the Director, CCP. Effectively handle a work environment and conditions that involve periodically working irregular hours, including some nights and weekends.
