Lower and Middle School Modern Language Department Chair
and
French/Spanish Teacher
for the 2025-2026 school year at an independent school in
Westchester County, NY. Base pay range:
$70,000.00/yr - $110,000.00/yr Responsibilities: Support the School’s mission, core values, and vision. Oversee the Lower and Middle School Language curriculum focusing on blending innovation with traditional approaches. Coordinate with school administration to evaluate and modify the scope and sequence of language curriculum. Teach three sections of Spanish and French courses for Lower and Middle school. Foster camaraderie within the department by actively striving to build community and by enacting a positive attitude toward change and challenge. Lead regular department meetings that set the department’s course and gauge the department’s progress towards goals each year. Schedule classroom visits and provide feedback to faculty on a regular basis. Administer placement tests for students to ensure successful course selection and placement. Assist in the hiring and mentoring of new teachers. Engage and lead professional development activities to ensure modern principles are in place. Serve as an advisor for Middle School students. Oversee and effectively allocate department budget funding. Communicate professionally and effectively with administrators, colleagues, and parents and guardians. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or higher preferred. 5+ years of teaching experience; experience as a Department Chair preferred. Experience with teaching both Spanish and French. Independent school experience preferred, but not required. Proven written and verbal proficiency in Spanish and French. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and leadership abilities; a positive mindset, enthusiasm, and a motivating and flexible approach to leadership. Well-organized and able to handle multiple responsibilities. Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. A desire to be involved in extra-curricular activities as well as the broader school community. Compensation and benefit packages are competitive but will differ by school and will typically depend on geographic location, your experience, and your level of degree. ️ Paid holidays, vacation and personal time.
