Research Scientist
ADNET seeks to hire a Research Scientist to support the Clouds and Earth's Radiant Energy System (CERES) Project Instrument Working group at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) under the RSES (Research, Science, and Engineering Services) Contract. CERES provides satellite-based observations of Earth Radiation Budget (ERB) and clouds. It uses measurements from CERES instruments flying on several NASA satellites along with data from other instruments to produce a comprehensive set of ERB data products for climate, weather and applied science research. This is a full-time position supporting CERES in Hampton, Virginia as part of the Research, Science, and Engineering Services (RSES) contract.
Note that although the position is currently presumed to be on a hybrid work status, the in-person nature of this position might change so as to require the successful candidate to be local to LaRC.
Responsibilities:
- Support calibration activities and evaluate performance of broadband radiometers that are on CERES instruments flying on multiple spacecraft.
- Support validation studies by performing analysis of CERES data to assess the stability of the sensors on CERES instruments.
- Develop novel methods to evaluate on-orbit instrument performance and implement algorithms to correct for anomalous instrument behavior.
- Conduct studies in support of the development of new Earth Radiation Budget Measurement instruments.
- Present research findings at meetings and conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
- Occasional travel to support meetings and conferences within the US or international locations.
Requirements:
- MS or PhD in Atmospheric. Earth, or Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics), or Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace) with demonstrated work experience relevant to the field.
- 2+ years of experience in scientific analysis through undergraduate or graduate studies, internships or as a professional.
- Experience in scientific programming/ data processing with Python, IDL, MATLAB or other programming languages.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must be a US person (Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident) and able to obtain basic public trust clearance for work at a federal facility.
