Compensation: $18-20 per hour
Classification: Full Time; Non-Exempt
Reports to: Childcare Director/Center Director
Supervisor Responsibilities: No
Location: CYC George E. Taylor Center at 3232 W. Division St. (Chicago, IL)
Schedule: 10:30a - 7:00p; Monday - Friday; schedule varies depending on program needs
Purpose: The Custodian provides daily cleaning and maintenance of assigned site/sites and grounds, and to perform tasks as directed by the Childcare Director or Center Director.
Responsibilities:
Daily Tasks
- Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; Empty all waste baskets
- Sweep, mop and disinfect floors; Vacuum Rugs
- Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks and mirrors using established practices and procedure
- Check hand soap, paper towels and tissue dispensers
- Replace light bulbs
- Clean baseboards, air vent, light fixtures
- Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surfaces floors, vacuum, and shampoo carpets pressure washers, high-speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
- Spot wash walls
- May shovel and remove snow and ice from designated areas such as sidewalks, entryways, and grounds work (ie: Grass)
- Monitor and report needs for building or equipment repairs
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED is required
- At least 1-2 years of related experience in cleaning and maintenance
- Ability to climb ladders
- Ability to travel between various CYC sites
- Skill in using cleaning products and equipment
- Have essential physical and mental capabilities in the following: Interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, follow directions, comprehension, calculating, reading, writing, speaking, evaluating, mathematics, organizing and innovation
- Takes classes as required in cleaning methods and techniques, new products
- Knowledge of health, fire and safety codes
