Cisco Network Engineer (Telecom)
to support ongoing and emerging telecommunications network projects across the Midwest region. This role is ideal for a hands-on network professional who also thrives in high-level design, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Layer 2 networking and routing protocols like OSPF and BGP, with strong written and interpersonal communication skills. Key Responsibilities: Test and document standard network solutions at both substation and corporate office locations, ensuring correct documentation is in place, alarming capabilities are properly enabled, asset system information is updated and change impact is properly documented and approved Configuration of Cisco routers and switches following enterprise architecture configuration templates, standards, and processes Procure, turn-up and troubleshoot both private and public WAN circuits Participate in high-level network design and documentation. Contribute to equipment configuration and testing. Prepare and maintain detailed network documentation, including site, rack, and power diagrams using MS Visio. Qualifications: Deep understanding of Layer 2 networking (VLANs, trunking, STP) Experience with Cisco routing and switching platforms. Strong knowledge of IPv4 routing and protocols such as OSPF; some familiarity with BGP is helpful Solid grasp of copper and fiber standards and associated cabling/connectors Ability to troubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 communication issues Familiarity with WAN technologies (Ethernet, T1s, cellular modems) Experience with tools like Palo Alto firewalls, Opengear, SolarWinds, Bluecat Experience with Cisco controller-based solutions such as ISE, DNAC, SDWAN and ACI a plus Desired Qualifications Cisco certifications; CCNA, CCNP; CCNP Security
