Position Purpose
Supervises the staff and operations of the City’s West Woods Golf Club Restaurant’s kitchen. Plans and manages food preparation, ensures high quality meals, efficiency of operations, and a high level of customer satisfaction. Partners with management staff to meet revenue objectives.
Essential Job Functions
- Supervises all back of house staff and operations in a high-volume kitchen to ensure quality of food preparation and service standards are being met.
- Hires and trains kitchen staff in standard operating procedures, food preparation and safety procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
- Schedules, monitors, and adjusts kitchen staffing to ensure adequate coverage for kitchen operations.
- Monitors quality of food preparation and presentation and adjusts or corrections as necessary.
- Assists in implementing appropriate strategies, policies, or practices to resolve any adverse trends, increase customer satisfaction and improve sales.
- Conducts regular physical inventories of food supplies, assesses projected needs, and orders all food supplies for catering and restaurant operations.
- Develops restaurant menus, creates “signature items,” and maintains recipes.
- Collaborates with restaurant management team on managing the restaurant operations to ensure maximum cost-efficiency and profitability.
- Assist with financial responsibilities, monitors budget and cost controls for kitchen related items. Makes recommendations for budget preparation and management.
- Maintains sanitation procedures and organization of work area adhering to government regulations.
- Maintains a safe work environment and working conditions for kitchen staff.
- Oversees day-to day leadership activities, including effectively communicate vision and priorities, makes decisions and problem solves, delegates work, manages performance, hires, manage resources, develops others, and maintains a team culture to produce strong performance and positive employee and community member experiences.
- Travels to and attends team and organizational meetings, training, events and activities and appropriately and professionally represents the department.
Other Job Functions
Works flexible hours, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Supervisory Duties
- Develops and/or participates in the development of staff work plans, measures and tracks progress towards goals, prepares and conducts timely and constructive performance appraisals.
- Makes decisions or recommendations for hiring, promotions, transfers, disciplinary action, and other personnel actions as necessary.
- Coaches, counsels and supports staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness. Consistently educates and advises staff on organizational rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Supports creative thinking and problem solving and encourages participatory decision making when appropriate.
- Provides training and job enrichment opportunities and encourages professional growth and development.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong working knowledge of kitchen management including food inventories, food costing, scheduling, menus, and safe kitchen practices.
- Strong knowledge of consistent food presentations and quality.
- Excellent computer skills to include restaurant management software, point-of-sale software, KDS, and MS Office software products.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to effectively supervise, train, motivate and evaluate staff.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask on several items simultaneously.
- Ability to be dependable and reliable.
- Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.
Knowledge Skills Abilities Preferred
License & Certification
A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is preferred
Education Degree
Associate's Degree (AS)
Education Major
Culinary, hospitality or related field.
Education Required
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Work Experience Related
Two (2) or more years of experience managing a kitchen as a sous chef or chef.
Work Experience Preferred
College degree in culinary arts or equivalent preferred.
Other Qualifications
A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is preferred.
Physical Demands
Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs.) and use of medium weight tools.
Hazards
Marginal to moderate exposure to conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury
Work Environment
Exposure to loud noise indoors.
