Respond to inquiries by email, phone, and in-person in a timely and professional manner. Provide clients with accurate information about PIN programs, services, and policies, as well as municipal, county, and state animal ordinances. Adoption Counseling:
Become familiar with adoptable animals in the shelter and in foster homes and write profiles and take photos and videos of animals to market them to adopters. Interact with and show animals of all sizes and temperaments and collaborate with matchmaker volunteers to introduce adopters to animals. Use conversation-based adoption counseling to match people and animals and follow open adoption policies that remove barriers to adoption. Read medical and behavior waivers and explain them to adopters. Animal Intake:
Process the intake of transferred and returned animals, which includes gathering information from clients with empathy, data entry, conducting health assessments on animals, restraining animals for treatments, vaccinating and microchipping animals, and setting up housing. Assist with volunteer, foster, behavior, medical, animal care, marketing and development departments when needed. Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Client Services and Volunteers. NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. The ideal person for this position will enjoy working with people and display a high level of professionalism. Ability to handle animals of all sizes, ages, and temperaments, including those with behavioral challenges and those who are injured or sick. Strong computer skills, fast data entry, familiarity with Microsoft applications and ability to learn new programs. Ability to work with minimal supervision and direction. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently and on a team. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prior experience related to animal care, veterinary care and/or animal behavior. Understanding and utilization of positive reinforcement and Fear Free Sheltering. Oral and written Spanish bilingual skills. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks and frequently sitting. Often stand and walk, reach above shoulders, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds. Ability to handle animals of all sizes, including dogs up to 130 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be available to work weekends and occasional holidays. Works inside and outdoors in various settings and weather onsite and within the community. Occasional travel between the Redwood City and Palo Alto shelter locations. Working with potentially dangerous and fractious animals.
