Posting Number: 20113134 Position Title: Dean, College of Graduate Studies FTE: 1.0 Position Type: Staff Department: Graduate Studies Job Summary/Basic Function: About This Role: The purpose of this position is to provide central support and leadership to serve, oversee, and advance all aspects of the graduate initiatives at Lamar University. This is accomplished by working with the administrative and staff members of the College of Graduate Studies, the Provost, the Graduate Council, the academic Deans, the graduate programs and faculty to provide students with the educational and research environments to pursue their graduate degrees, and Lamar’s designated OPM, Rise Point. Oversee graduate studies curricula development, program assessment, and review of the course additions and deletions, supervisory access to all areas and records relating to graduate programs of the University and in outreach to external locations. Other duties include committee work (on and off campus), regular interactions with different factions on campus, promoting graduate study at Lamar University both on and off campus, and other duties as assigned by supervisors. Manage all Rise Point contracts. What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities: Academic and Administrative Oversight: Serve as the chief planning and budget officer for the college, overseeing fiscal allocations for instruction, research, and service. Foster a culture of shared governance, working closely with department heads, faculty, and university administrators. Ensure programs meet university expectations for academic rigor and excellence. Strategic Planning and Leadership: Design, implement, and assess a new strategic plan for the college aligned with the university’s mission. Collaborate with enrollment management and marketing on strategic enrollment initiatives. Faculty and Staff Development: Engage in recruitment and professional development of faculty and staff to foster a highly qualified academic community. Mentor faculty and support innovative teaching practices and curriculum development aligned with learner needs. Accreditation and Compliance: Oversee all accreditation activities, ensuring programs meet standards set by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and other accrediting bodies. Serve as the administrative officer for professional education compliance, maintaining alignment with federal, state, and institutional regulations. External Funding and Research: Support faculty initiatives to secure external funding for research and scholarly activities. Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and partnerships to advance the college’s research mission. Community Engagement and Partnership Development: Strengthen connections with local K-12 schools and community organizations to support educational outreach and program development. Represent the college on university councils and committees, advocating for college needs and initiatives. Student Success and Support: Promote policies and programs that enhance student retention, graduation, and career readiness. Support initiatives that foster a supportive environment for all students. Policy Development and Implementation: Making and/or recommending final decisions regarding policy development and implementation. Exercising participative management skills to support team efforts and quality processes. Operational Autonomy: Performing duties within broad parameters defined by organizational requirements and accepted practices. Ensuring end results determine job performance effectiveness. Advanced Technical Skills: Possessing advanced skills and knowledge in approaches and systems affecting major programs/processes. Utilizing independent judgment and decision-making abilities to apply technical skills effectively. Budgetary Responsibility: Having final approval authority for at least one division/departmental budget. Approving fiscal/budgeted expenditures up to a certain limit requiring senior management approval. Online Program Experience: Having advanced knowledge of online programming, including but not limited to pedagogy, curriculum and course building process, and faculty workload. Supporting Lamar’s partnership with Rise Point as the initial point of contact. Ensure current and proposed Rise Point programs are profitable and needed for the betterment of Lamar University and Southeast Texas. Physical Requirements: Able to lift 25 lbs. and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing and walking between buildings. Work requires over five years of relevant experience.
