Job Summary/Basic Function:About This Role:
The Lamar University Director of Sports Nutrition role is intended for registered dietitians interested in pursuing a career in collegiate athletics. This position will allow the opportunity to work with Division I student-athletes, while also developing administrative skills (Ex. budgeting, inventory, etc.). The position will work directly with all seventeen sports teams and will serve as the preceptor for the Dietetic Internship Graduate Level Program on-campus, while serving an integral role in the Lamar University Athletics Department. Position reports directly to the Strength & Conditioning Coordinator. What Youll Do Position Responsibilities:
- Nutrition Center Operations & Food Safety
- Oversee the daily operations of the Lamar University Athletics Market Basket Nutrition Center.
- Manage inventory, ordering, and stocking of nutrition supplies.
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards and best practices.
- Develop and distribute educational materials (e.g., flyers, presentations) to promote proper nutrition among student-athletes.
- Sports Nutrition & Meal Preparation
- Prepare and distribute pre- and post-workout nutrition for student-athletes, including snacks, shakes, and PB&J stations.
- Maintain an organized and well-stocked nutrition center to support athlete performance and recovery.
- Athlete Education & Consultation
- Conduct individual and team consultations on nutrition strategies for performance, body composition goals, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Develop and implement meal plans tailored to specific athlete needs.
- Lead educational seminars and presentations on sports nutrition best practices.
- Student Employee & Volunteer Mentorship
- Serve as a mentor to student employees and volunteers, teaching best practices in sports nutrition and food service.
- Bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application in a performance nutrition setting.
- Recruitment & Retention of Student Workers
- Coordinate efforts to recruit, train, and retain student employees and volunteers.
- Foster a positive learning environment that encourages professional development in sports nutrition.
- Administrative & Other Duties
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the Strength & Conditioning Coordinator.
- Collaborate with athletic staff and other university departments as needed to support student-athlete wellness.
Ability to collaborate with other staff members within the Lamar University Athletics department and the Lamar University College of Education and Human Development Must be receptive to feedback/constructive criticism and adaptable to a variety of situations Excellent communication and presentation skills Ability to process scientific research and communicate information to student-athletes effectively and efficiently Punctuality, work ethic, reliability, adaptable, professional, detailed Understanding and following of confidentiality/privacy rules and regulations Strict adherence to established NCAA, Southland Conference, Lamar University and Texas State University System rules and regulations.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasionally moves supplies and equipment up to fifty pounds
Job Conditions:
- The Sports Dietitian will work in a university athletic environment, requiring a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and occasional travel. The role involves working in various settings such as offices, training facilities, and athletic fields. Compliance with NCAA, university, and health regulations is required.

Preferred Qualifications:- 2-3 years relevant experience in a colligate athletic setting or comparable and desire to work towards Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) credential
