JD or PhD – Juris Doctorate degree required. Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of legal experience required. Must have experience supervising attorneys and staff. Certification/License:
Admission to Michigan Bar required. Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must undergo a Criminal background investigation under the rules of the National Indian Gaming Commission. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of Tribal, Federal and State law, especially Indian Law and Gaming Law; Legal Research and Writing; legislative and political processes; and legal administration. Must have excellent organizational, project management, and leadership skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential. Must possess research techniques, advanced problem-solving, analytical skills, strategic planning, and governmental administration skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Financial administration and management skills are required. Supervisory experience and human resource management skills are essential. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases is necessary. Ability to analyze data, interpret legal documents and regulations, and prepare clear, concise reports and correspondence. Must be able to navigate complex federal, state, municipal, and inter-tribal networks. Maintaining confidentiality is critical.
