This is a replacement post to support the provision of cardiology services at Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB, based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. The Royal Glamorgan Hospital has a history of developing high quality innovative cardiac services working closely and collaboratively with our tertiary centre colleagues at the University Hospital of Wales, and in supporting new colleagues in developing their sub-specialty interests.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the ‘Unscheduled Care Group’ in providing a specialist cardiology service primarily at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. There will be an expectation to manage inpatients allocated to cardiology as part of the acute medical intake as well as taking referrals and giving advice to physician colleagues in the care of cardiac patients. As such the post holder will be expected to work closely with colleagues in the cardiology department to develop a consistent, multi-disciplinary approach to the care for patients with cardiac conditions throughout the care group and the Health Board. The successful candidate will also be expected to continue to develop their sub-specialty cardiology skills with the expectation of delivering bradycardia pacing, complex device implantation and arrhythmia management.

Person specification
Qualifications
- MRCP or equivalent
- Full GMC registration
- CCT in Cardiology (or equivalent accreditation in the UK specialist register) – within 6 months of date of interview
- MD or PhD
- Accreditation in GIM
- Extensive experience in general cardiology (as deemed appropriate at interview).
- Sub-specialty training/appropriate experience in cardiac device implantation (brady PPM and complex devices)
- Working knowledge / experience of the NHS (as deemed appropriate at interview)
- Experience in general internal medicine
Management Skills
- Understanding of management priorities within the NHS
Clinical Effectiveness Skills
- Experience of and participation in clinical audit
- Ability to produce and implement guidelines / protocols based on evidence based practice
Knowledge, personal skills and abilities
- Proven clinical ability to a high standard
- Experience of developing and participating in teaching programmes for trainees and medical students
- Publication(s) in professional journals
- Evidence of papers presented at national/ international meetings
Personal Skills
- Good organisational and communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Proven ability to work under pressure
- Commitment to teamwork and pursuit of the corporate agenda of the employer
