(2.0 FTE) Secondary Assistant Principal - 215 days 1 Position for Grades 6-8; 1 Position for Grades 9-12 Oxford Virtual Academy 2025-26 School Year
Primary Function:
To assist administration in providing leadership, supervisory and administrative skills in order to promote the educational development of each secondary student in grades 6-12. To serve as an educational leader within the program, assisting administration in managing the policies, regulations and procedures of the secondary program and school district, ensuring that all staff and students are supervised in an environment (virtual and/or physical) that best meets the vision and mission of the secondary education program and Oxford Community Schools.
Qualifications: Education & Experience
Master's degree or higher in the field of administration preferred, with coursework in educational leadership and/or secondary curriculum instruction. Michigan Administrative Certification or plan toward obtaining certification per State regulation. Valid State of Michigan teaching certificate in Secondary Education (grades 6-12), required. Minimum of four (4) years of successful secondary teaching experience, required. Administrative experience in secondary education, preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of current secondary educational issues and best practices, including, but not limited to: Michigan Merit Curriculum, middle school and high school improvement initiatives, secondary school accreditation, general knowledge of instructional technology for adolescent learners, academic intervention for grades 6-12, social-emotional learning competencies for secondary students, team building, and data analysis. Demonstrated leadership and success in parent/community relations, staff development, and human relations specific to secondary education environments. Knowledge of current best practice in secondary instructional strategies and the ability to improve teacher instruction for grades 6-12. Experience and knowledge of working with secondary virtual and hybrid education models and age-appropriate technology integration, preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of current federal and state laws and policies affecting secondary education. Understanding of adolescent development and secondary learning characteristics. Adept in integrating multiple technology tools for the benefit of systems efficiency and secondary student/community engagement. Proficient in Google Suite including Google Sheets, Docs, Slides for secondary education applications. Knowledge and skill in the use of PowerSchool and PowerTeacher for secondary grade management, preferred. Proficient in the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other learning platforms appropriate for grades 6-12.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: General Duties
Assist with leadership, management, and administration of secondary education programs (grades 6-12). Demonstrate a passion for innovative and personalized learning approaches for secondary students. Assist with the marketing and business components for secondary education programs, as needed. Working knowledge of secondary curriculum vendors and quality online curriculum for grades 6-12. Promote a trauma-informed approach tailored to adolescent development. Commitment to following board policy and administrative guidelines. Other duties as assigned. Customer Service
Maintain the highest level of customer service in alignment with secondary education program models. Communicate promptly with each secondary student, parent, and/or guardian. Assist secondary students and families in making educational decisions. Educate students and families about secondary education options, including college and career readiness pathways. Provide support to secondary building wellness champions and counseling staff. Safety Duties
Co-lead & collaborate with the secondary school safety team related to school safety drills & reporting, AED, Stop the Bleed, threat assessment, suicide assessment, and other duties related to secondary school safety. Co-lead professional development related to secondary school safety and age-appropriate crisis response. Facilitate a culture of awareness and ensure that all secondary staff are proficient in safety practices and protocols specific to adolescent populations. Academic Improvement & Curricular Needs
Assist with monitoring and assessing secondary instructional data and programs in terms of their impact on student achievement and completion of all secondary school improvement plans and contribute to the 6-12 curriculum review cycle. Attend IEPs, 504 meetings, and truancy meetings for assigned secondary students (grades 6-12). Lead and assist with creating the secondary school's MICIP/school improvement plan. Ensure proper implementation of MICIP actions throughout the school year for grades 6-12. Lead the MTSS process with the district MTSS Coordinator and secondary building/district administrative teams. Lead MTSS meetings and ensure progress monitoring throughout the school year for secondary students. Provide input on the effectiveness of interventions and what adjustments might benefit secondary students and staff. Ensure the proper organization and facilitation of child study meetings for progress monitoring of secondary student support. Lead the administration and tracking of secondary benchmark assessments three times each school year and manage intervention programs for grades 6-12. Assist with secondary testing (M-Step/SAT/MME/PSAT/local assessments) coordination. Work with district leadership on secondary school data analysis and appropriate learning goals based on score analysis. Ensure that secondary programs are in compliance with all accreditation requirements: manage the alignment of curriculum to ensure that all secondary curriculums contain the rigor and benchmarks set by the Common Core, MMC, and Oxford standards for grades 6-12. Works cooperatively with secondary guidance counselors, social workers, and other support team members to implement various initiatives to increase the high school graduation rate, support middle school transition, decrease student dropout, and ensure students can achieve their appropriate grade level. Provide oversight of the EDPs (Educational Development Plans) and secondary curriculum for grades 6-12. Ensure collaboration between general education and special education staff in secondary settings. Support college and career readiness initiatives and dual enrollment coordination. Environment/Discipline & Student Behavior
Manage the behavioral and academic environment for all secondary students (grades 6-12). Proficient in the use of restorative practices appropriate for adolescent development. Lead PBIS initiatives tailored to secondary education environments. Promote a supportive atmosphere and approach for all secondary students, recognizing developmental needs of adolescents. Provide student disciplinary support according to the Student Code of Conduct, Board Policy, Administrative Guidelines, and best practices for secondary education. Teacher Leadership
Lead the professional growth and evaluations of assigned secondary teaching staff. Collaborate with the leadership team regarding secondary instructional content coaching. Collaborate with leadership team for educational technology professional development specific to grades 6-12. Collaborate to create and facilitate secondary staff professional learning. Monitor secondary content teacher communications with students and parents. Oversee the frequency and quality of teacher-student communication for grades 6-12. Co-manage the schedules and implementation of secondary student and parent orientations. Ensure the effectiveness of orientation material delivered by teacher volunteers for grades 6-12. Collaborate to lead and facilitate secondary professional learning communities according to the DuFour model. Supervise secondary instructional coaches and the Professional Learning Communities for grades 6-12. Support mentoring programs for new secondary teachers and student teachers.

Per Oxford Administrators Association Salary Schedule for 215 workdays; starting at $93,721
