The Diocese of Joliet Catholic schools are dedicated to enhancing the ongoing spiritual and educational development of students and staff by managing the curriculum to align with standardized methods that improve teaching, learning and faith formation. As our schools continue to evolve and grow, we implement energetic strategies to increase enrollment, and create systems that serve students from diverse backgrounds in parishes throughout the diocese.
Responsibilities
The School Counselor for elementary and middle school grades PreK-8 will provide direct counseling services that support the social and emotional developmental needs of the students while bringing a collaborative, solutions-oriented attitude to our team while serving as an advocate for the development of the whole child. Provide direct services to students in the areas of child and adolescent development, goal setting and action planning, education strategies, self-management, and social interaction skills to help students in achieving success in school. Provide crisis management support to students and faculty. Build and maintain comprehensive, school-wide preventative needs programming. Consult with other school personnel in gathering and sharing appropriate information, as well as to establish staff roles and responsibilities regarding student needs beyond general academic education. Prepare and submit timely reports on students referred for evaluation and maintain appropriate records of cases. Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and principal to encourage constructive participation in student progress. Attend and cooperate with the principal and staff members in school related meetings, required staff meetings, activities, and projects. Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding school personnel, students, and general school matters. NOTE: Responsibilities listed are not limited to other duties assigned.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, feel with hands, reach with arms, walk up or down multiple flights of stairs, and be physically able to perform duties as assigned, including the ability to lift up to 20-30 pounds if needed. Works in standard office and school building environments but also has ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities. Qualifications and Experience
A master's degree from an accredited college or university in School Counseling, Counseling, or a related discipline applicable to this position is required. A Professional Educator's License (PEL) with School Counselor endorsement is required. Professional Certification and/or Professional License is required. 1-5 years experience in school counseling is desired. Demonstrated ability to operate with a growth mindset and seek opportunities for feedback. Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills. Sensitive and responsive to the needs of others. Ability to cultivate a loving and joyful student culture. Deep belief in the potential of all children and the values of Catholic education.
