Direct Counsel is seeking a Finance and Restructuring Litigation Associate to join an Am Law 100 firm with a nationally recognized litigation practice. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with a premier team handling sophisticated disputes in finance, restructuring, and Native American law.
About the Role
The firm's litigation team represents a wide range of clients, including tribal governments, financial institutions, corporations, and other entities in high-stakes disputes. The associate in this role will focus on Federal Indian Law, complex commercial litigation, financial restructuring disputes, and administrative law matters. This position provides significant client exposure, hands-on litigation experience, and opportunities for professional growth within a leading firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent tribal governments, tribal entities, and tribal members in matters involving sovereignty, gaming, and regulatory issues.
- Handle finance and restructuring litigation, including creditor and debtor rights, bankruptcy disputes, and related commercial litigation.
- Work on complex commercial and construction litigation, including contract disputes, business torts, and regulatory compliance matters.
- Draft pleadings, motions, and briefs for matters in federal, state, and tribal courts.
- Conduct legal research and provide strategic counsel to clients on litigation risks and opportunities.
- Engage in trials, depositions, hearings, and oral arguments, gaining meaningful courtroom experience.
- Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys to develop case strategy and execute litigation plans.
- Experience: 3-5 years of litigation experience, with a strong interest in Federal Indian Law and financial restructuring disputes.
- Litigation Skills: Strong research, writing, and advocacy abilities; experience drafting motions and handling discovery.
- Courtroom Experience: Prior experience with depositions, hearings, trials, or appellate work is preferred.
- Academic Credentials: J.D. from an accredited law school with a strong academic record.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to manage multiple complex matters with a high level of organization and precision.
- Collaboration & Initiative: A team-oriented mindset with the ability to take ownership of projects and contribute to case strategy.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $180,000-$300,000 (dependent on experience, location, and firm policies).
