Job Description Summary The Program Director position directs and oversees a grant-funded initiative from CalOptima, which aims to build a robust, diversified pipeline to the Chapman University’s PA program, particularly focusing on economically disadvantaged students from Orange County. The director will build awareness and conduct outreach to transfer students from community colleges and existing Health Science / Pre-PA undergraduates in Orange County. Responsibilities include working closely with transfer centers, admission counselors, and financial aid offices to facilitate student transfers to Chapman University’s undergraduate Health Sciences and provide Pre-Pa support services, with the goal of admission to Chapman University PA program. The Director will also collaborate with Crean College career services to assist funded PA students with job placement after graduation, particularly in medically underserved areas of Orange County. The Director will also ensure ongoing employment verification in these communities for five years and collaborate with the PA Program Director of Clinical Education to expand clinical sites with those who have been fully funded through this program. The Director will collect data on various benchmarks of program success as specified in the CalOptima grant. The Director will draft the data sections of six-month and annual reports three weeks prior to due date. Overall, the Director plays a pivotal role in finding students who qualify and apply for this unique opportunity, facilitating admitted student success and job placement, which positively impacts and addresses healthcare workforce needs in underserved communities. Responsibilities Pipeline Enhancement and Awareness
- Build and expand awareness and outreach of CalOptima grant program, including various kinds of events
- Refine and refocus the student population in the PA pipeline-track
- Identify pre-PA students from Orange County community colleges and universities who are economically disadvantaged
Pre-PA Student Support
- Liaise with community college transfer centers and Chapman University staff
- Provide financial aid support to economically disadvantaged students
- Organize workshops on personal statement writing, application process for PA school and interviewing
- Collaborate with Crean College career services to identify opportunities for Pre-PA patient care experiences
Funded PA Student Support
- Assist funded PA students in securing job interviews and employment
- Monitor student employment in medically underserved areas for five years
- Verify ongoing employment in underserved communities
Program Development
- Leverage existing pathways from Orange County community colleges to the Chapman University Health Science degree
- Expand transfer student admission to the undergraduate Health Science degree.
- Provide eligible transfer students with a clear pathway to the PA program.
Other duties as assigned ; collaborate with the Dean and other PA Program Staff to assess goals and progress of the program.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, health science, public or business administration, or a related field
- Three to five years of progressive experience in higher education and / or in healthcare, career services, program development
- Demonstrated ability to create awareness of programs or initiatives, such as through events, marketing, or word of mouth
- Demonstrated ability to customize survey tools such as Qualtrics, Survey Monkey
- Demonstrated ability to conduct meaningful assessment from goal setting, benchmarking, data gathering, data analysis, to actionable feedback
- Ability to communicate effectively including excellent listening and speaking skills and report writing
- Ability to work well with others and understanding of teamwork
- Capacity to engage in out-of-the-box thinking and to move ideas from concept to program
- Ability to manage others effectively
Desired Qualifications
- Basic statistical analytic skills
- Experience working with Pre-PA or PA students or graduates
- Experience using Lightcast or other job search boards in healthcare
- Experience using social media as a communication tool
- Masters degree in education, health science, public or business administration, or a related field
