Position Overview:
Reporting to the SVP of Government Affairs, the Director/Senior Director of Government Affairs will assume a major leadership role in the CEBA’s Government Affairs team. To leverage the voice of our 400+ members, whose combined market capitalization exceeds $20T, requires world-class stakeholder management. The team manages relationships with corporate members’ Government Affairs teams, Congress members and staff, political appointees, agency heads, NGOs, think tanks, and lobbyists.
The team partners with the Policy team to inform and influence policy objectives through political intelligence, building relationships with officials and staff to pursue legislative and regulatory goals.
The mission is to translate CEBA’s policy goals into pragmatic legislative and regulatory initiatives, enhance its political brand, and lay groundwork for future wins.
Qualifications
- A robust political network across parties, especially with Republican relationships in Congress at various levels for key committees.
- A strong interest and understanding of clean energy policy, transmission, and permitting.
- Broad knowledge of legislative processes and norms across chambers and agencies.
- Proven political instincts from personal experience.
- Strategic thinking with tactical execution skills.
- 10+ years of federal legislative experience, including senior roles.
- Experience in advocacy, lobbying, or legislative work with active members.
Responsibilities
- Lead CEBA’s policy advocacy strategy through lobbying, intelligence, and campaign management.
- Maintain relationships with elected and appointed officials.
- Communicate effectively, gather and manage political intelligence.
- Simplify complex issues to identify political pathways.
- Manage stakeholder engagement strategies.
- Guide junior staff in tracking and analyzing federal developments.
- Build and maintain relationships with officials and staff.
- Represent CEBA at political events and fundraising activities.
- Create persuasive advocacy talking points.
- Collaborate with Policy and Communications teams to align strategies.
- Ensure policy and legislative objectives are politically feasible.
- Prepare communications for members’ government affairs offices.
- Provide strategic leadership and coaching to the team.
- Adapt to rapid changes and communicate political status updates.
