Engineering Manager - Mechanical
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the mechanical engineering function in our medium voltage switchgear division. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge of switchgear design, a passion for mentoring engineers, and a strong understanding of industry standards and requirements.
Specifics:
- Lead and manage the mechanical engineering team in the design and development of medium voltage switchgear products.
- Translate single-line and three-line electrical drawings into mechanical layouts, including 3D renderings and detailed side views.
- Ensure all mechanical designs meet clearance requirements and functional specifications across various voltage levels.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical engineering, manufacturing, and product management teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards including ANSI, ASME, NEC, and UL.
- Drive continuous improvement in mechanical design processes, tools, and documentation.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and technical excellence.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical oversight throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Maintain responsibility of Engineering schedule and KPIs.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical design of medium voltage switchgear or something similar is required.
- Proficient in interpreting and working from single line and three line diagrams.
- Strong expertise in 3D CAD tools: AutoCAD and SolidWorks experience preferred.
- Proven understanding of electrical clearance requirements at various voltage levels.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements (ANSI, ASME, NEC, UL).
- Prior leadership or team management experience is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineering talent.
- Background in manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Experience with design for manufacturability and cost optimization.
- Exposure to switchgear testing and validation processes.
