Overview
We are seeking a warm, loving, and highly organized Pre-K Head Teacher who is creative, innovative, and passionate about Early Childhood Education . The ideal candidate is a strong leader who thrives in a collaborative, child-centered environment and is excited to guide young learners through meaningful, play-based, and project-driven experiences.
Responsibilities:- Family Communication: Build strong relationships with families through daily conversations, a classroom blog, and photo documentation . Capture and share children’s learning experiences through slideshows and uploads for parents.
- Child & Classroom Portfolios: Maintain individual child portfolios with thoughtful documentation of children’s higher-level thinking, dialogue, and progress. Create a class portfolio highlighting Pre-K project work throughout the school year.
- Classroom Management: Foster a nurturing and structured learning environment using gentle redirection and positive reinforcement. Lead small and large group activities, circle time, and reflection meetings to support children's social-emotional development.
- Curriculum & Lesson Planning:
- Design engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans that support Pre-K readiness and align with children’s interests through project-based learning .
- Integrate weekly specialist-led activities (music, language, movement, and more) into lesson planning.
- Support children’s emerging literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills through play and exploration.
- Care & Well-being: Support children’s daily routines , including snack and lunch time, dressing, and bathroom independence.
- Classroom Environment: Maintain a well-organized, engaging, and stimulating Pre-K classroom that encourages creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration.
- Professional Growth & Collaboration:
- Participate in weekly team meetings to reflect, document, and enhance learning experiences.
- Attend professional development days with Reggio Emilia specialists .
- Lead the training, development, and supervision of assistant/co-teachers.
- Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans (due every Monday).
- Regularly update child and classroom portfolios .
- Collaborate with co-teachers and staff on documentation projects .
- Actively participate in staff development trainings .
- Be open to the Reggio Emilia philosophy and a growth-oriented teaching approach . Prior Reggio Emilia experience is a plus.
- Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education (or actively working toward one).
- Minimum of two years of classroom teaching experience, preferably in a Pre-K setting .
- New York State Certification preferred.
