Nestled in San Francisco's Excelsior neighborhood on a nine-acre campus, the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL) is a center of excellence in providing a continuum of care. This includes the Frank Residences, which offer luxurious assisted living and memory care services; the Jewish Home and Rehabilitation Center, featuring long-term skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, and an acute psychiatric unit specializing in mental healthcare for older adults (age 55 and over); and the Jewish Home and Senior Living Foundation.
Grounded in the Jewish values of dignity, compassion, and community, the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living—fondly referred to in the past as "the Jewish Home"—was founded in 1871. Today, 150 years later, it continues to build upon its legacy of enriching the lives of older adults.
Position Overview:
The Assistant Executive Director reports to the Executive Director of Frank Residences and assists and supports the Executive Director in the overall management and leadership of Frank Residences. Under the direction of the Executive Director, this position focuses on providing oversight for the Health & Wellness Department for Assisted Living and Memory Care. The Assistant Executive Director plays a key leadership role in ensuring the provision of high-quality care, compliance with regulatory standards, and the development of a positive, resident-focused environment. This position is part of the executive senior leadership team of the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL) and serves as a liaison between staff, residents, families, and the larger community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Executive Director works closely with the Executive Director to ensure that Frank Residences operates efficiently, effectively, and in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values. Specific duties include:
Leadership & Operations:
Oversee the overall operations of the community in the absence of the Executive Director.
Assist the Executive Director in providing leadership and management for Frank Residences to ensure a high standard of care and service delivery.
Lead and oversee the Health & Wellness department for both Assisted Living and Memory Care.
Along with the Executive Director, provide oversight for all departments, ensuring optimal care for residents and smooth operational processes.
Collaborate with the Executive Director, Health and Wellness Director, and other key staff members to deliver high-quality resident care.
Foster a collaborative, supportive environment among management and staff, ensuring that all teams work cohesively toward the organization's shared goals, ensuring resident dignity, respect, and well-being.
Collaborate with the Executive Director to ensure all policies and procedures are implemented consistently and effective communication across all levels of the community.
Collaborate with SFCJL Senior Leadership to develop and implement organizational policies and recommend updates to existing policies and procedures.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance:
Ensure Frank Residences complies with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Collaborate with the Director of Health & Wellness and other leadership to prepare for regulatory surveys, audits, and inspections.
Communicate with the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and other relevant entities regarding compliance requirements and reports, ensuring deadlines are met.
Oversee the implementation of corrective action plans and quality improvement initiatives based on survey results or performance evaluations.
Interpret and implement CDSS's new policies, guidelines, and standards.
Lead initiatives to continuously monitor, assess, and improve resident care and satisfaction across all service areas.
Support the Executive Director in preparing and managing the annual operating budget, ensuring all departments adhere to fiscal guidelines.
Monitor financial performance and provide regular updates on revenue, expenses, and budget variances for all departments, with primary emphasis on the Health & Wellness department.
Identify and implement cost-saving measures without compromising the quality of care and service.
Staff Supervision and Development:
Supervise and mentor department leaders to foster a high-performing team that provides excellent resident care.
Ensure that staff members receive appropriate training, professional development, and performance feedback.
Work with Human Resources to manage staff recruitment, retention, and performance improvement efforts across the community.
Promote employee engagement and satisfaction by cultivating a positive and inclusive work environment .
Resident Relations & Community Engagement:
Assist the Executive Director in managing relationships with the Resident Council and other resident committees, such as the Health Committee, ensuring resident concerns and feedback are addressed promptly.
Serve as a liaison between residents, families, and staff, addressing concerns, resolving conflicts, and ensuring that the needs of residents are met.
Collaborate with the Sales Director to engage with the community and promote Frank Residences through outreach, participation in community events, and building positive relationships with local stakeholders.
Strategic Planning & Collaboration:
Support
the Executive Director in strategic planning initiatives to enhance the quality of services, operational efficiency, and resident satisfaction.
Work with senior leadership to identify areas for improvement and drive initiatives aimed at enhancing service delivery across Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Life Enrichment.
Participate in senior leadership meetings and collaborate with the Board of Directors as needed on strategic projects and long-term goals.
Emergency Preparedness & Crisis Management:
Ensure that emergency protocols are in place for natural disasters, medical crises, or other emergency situations and that staff are trained in these procedures.
Lead and assist in managing crisis situations to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and staff.
Additional Duties as Assigned:
Assume additional responsibilities as required and assigned, including representing the Executive Director in their absence, managing special projects, and contributing to community events and initiatives.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
At least 5 years of relevant experience in senior living management, with a strong background in Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Life Enrichment.
Proven leadership ability with experience in overseeing complex operational structures.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage staff, residents, families, and community stakeholders.
In-depth knowledge of regulatory standards and industry best practices for senior care.
Comprehensive knowledge of Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Life Enrichment operations, regulations, and best practices.
Strong financial acumen, with the ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and operational costs.
Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement corrective actions to improve performance.
Proven ability to foster a collaborative work environment and lead a multi-disciplinary team.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities while ensuring high standards of service and care.
