Overview
Before Guardian Partners, oversight of guardianship cases in Oregon was almost non-existent, leaving the court unaware of the well-being or resource needs of adults under guardianship. To address this, our trained volunteer Monitors provide thorough, limited oversight by evaluating cases of adults with cognitive impairments. Once appointed by the county court, Monitors interview guardians, consult with collateral professionals, and visit the protected person in their home. Acting as the eyes and ears of the court, Monitors report on the quality of the guardianship, assure the values and dignity of the protected adult are met, may share needed resources, and can make recommendations via a report for the court. Monitors may also make recommendations for court intervention as required. The Monitor’s goal is to partner with families for a limited time to affirm the guardianship is stable. When it is not, court intervention may range from a change in guardianship, to restoration of rights for the protected adult, to identifying abusive or neglectful situations. For issues or concerns about a guardianship case, please contact your local Probate Court.
