BASIC FUNCTION
The Community Fellow at the Georgetown - Howard Center for Medical Humanities and Health Justice (MHHJ) is responsible for developing and implementing an interdisciplinary research project aligned with the Center's annual theme. The Fellow will engage in scholarly collaborations, contribute to public-facing events, and support the intellectual community within the Center and both universities.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY
The Community Fellow reports to the Director of Research and Public Policy for the Center. While the position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities, the Fellow is expected to serve as a resource for other fellows within the program.
NATURE AND SCOPE
The Fellow will engage in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of humanities and health justice. This includes collaboration with other scholars, participation in university scholarly groups, and contributions to the broader academic and community discourse on health humanities, health equity, and public policy. The Fellow is expected to develop a phased project with potential for expansion and contribute to the intellectual and public engagement missions of the Center.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Develop and implement an interdisciplinary research project aligned with the Center's annual theme. Foster collaboration within the Center's interdisciplinary and collaborative "laboratory" environment. Organize at least one public-facing workshop, conference, or event. Present findings to Georgetown and Howard communities. Promote and publicize Center community-wide events and activities. Serve as a resource for other fellows CORE COMPETENCIES
Leadership and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and scholarly engagement. Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey research findings and contribute to academic discourse. Expertise in health humanities, health equity, health policy, community engagement, and/or public health. Ability to work independently and as part of a team to execute research projects and contribute to Center initiatives. Research and synthesis skills to produce compelling academic and public-facing work. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research and community engagement. Compassion, empathy, and open-mindedness to integrate multiple dimensions of health justice research, including clinical, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and institutional aspects. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and participate in MHHJ programming. Must have experience in fields related to health, humanities, or the arts. Demonstrated ability to work collegially with diverse professional and lay audiences. Scholarly initiative, creativity, and commitment to interdisciplinary research. Ability to reflect and uphold the Center's values in all research and community engagement efforts.
