Description
Human Resources Director Synopsis:
This position is responsible for the smooth operation of the church’s human resources. It includes staying up to date on legal changes and requirements related to applicants, onboarding, payroll, performance management, compensation, and benefits. The role also involves consulting with managers and supervisors on personnel issues and providing strategic staffing, compensation, benefits, training, and development advice to management, along with budget oversight. Responsibilities: Prepare offer letters and compensation packages for new employees; produce annual compensation package letters for staff. Coordinate onboarding for new hires, including follow-up with supervisors to ensure full orientation within the first 3 months. Set up health insurance, vision, dental, LTD & ADD for full-time new hires, providing necessary information for benefit decisions, including walking through MERP processes and procedures. Regularly communicate the importance of shopping for health providers and services to contain costs. Verify and research salaries for various positions, reviewing purchased salary data biennially. Maintain demographic and position-based salary comparison data. Prepare reports for audits such as Workers Compensation and payroll. Review and manage health insurance benefits annually, collaborating with brokers to ensure clarity during open enrollment, and facilitate enrollment via HR/payroll systems. Identify and resolve administrative or managerial problems, serving as a resource for legal steps for corrective actions. Contribute to process improvements and innovations to enhance HR efficiency. Implement checklists for new employees to ensure timely setup of payroll and benefits. Conduct exit interviews, summarizing responses for the Executive Pastor and employee's supervisor. Ensure all HR functions comply with applicable regulations and conduct periodic audits (e.g., I-9). Oversee background checks and ensure staff complete Ministry Safe training biennially. Manage workers' compensation claims and follow-up processes. Coordinate annual reviews and checkpoints with staff and supervisors. Attend training/conferences to stay current with HR laws and practices relevant to church staff. Develop and maintain the Employee Handbook and related policies. Maintain personnel files and ensure document currency. Cross-train on medical reimbursement processes, review requests for IRS compliance, and process reimbursements within budget. Process VOE requests accurately and timely. Act as backup for payroll processing, including issuing bonus checks and posting fringe benefits. Train supervisors on approving PTO, conferences, and timecards, reviewing for follow-up training as needed. Set up schedules in payroll for hourly staff and manage holiday pay schedules. Review and verify PTO balances at year-end and rollover. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Business Administration. Network with other HR professionals to advance church ministry. Produce EEO annual reports and ACA forms as required by law. Uphold CCC’s mission, statement of faith, and core values. Work collaboratively within the church staff team. Qualifications
Education & Experience: Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field. Knowledge of benefits, payroll, and employment issues. Previous HR experience in a church setting is preferred. Project management skills required. Self-starter attitude essential. SHRM membership desired. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Customer service focus with a high sense of urgency. Christian faith aligned with CCC’s beliefs. Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt as needed. Independent worker with team collaboration skills. Strong problem-solving skills. Professional demeanor and positive attitude. Research skills related to employment topics. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Excel and Word.
