This intern position is based in Clemmons, North Carolina.
As an entry level position in the R&D Lab, the Lab Tech Intern works closely with the Engineering Design Team and the R&D Lab Team to develop the testing and evaluation skills necessary to support the design and development of new and existing products.
The Intern will participate in conducting test plans that provide data and observations to support the development of new products, and enhance the understanding of existing, legacy, and competitive products. Working cross functionally the Intern will ensure that the highest level of design quality, integrity and performance are maintained with strict adherence to all company policies and procedures. The Intern will also participate in the testing of swimming pool products for conformity with internal and industry standards.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the Engineering team by participating in daily laboratory activities, observing test methodologies, and applying knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to recommend improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of existing Hayward products and Laboratory testing schemes.
Review and interpret product standards and test procedures, execute test requests and analyze results.
Conscientious of all Safety protocols.
Construct test fixtures involving basic plumbing and electrical tasks.
Proper use of basic hand and power tools.
Follows procedures both written and verbal.
Maintains company sensitive information in confidence.
Insures that all laboratory facilities and equipment are kept clean and orderly at all times.
Maintain test pools chemistry levels and equipment to ensure overall water quality.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Ability to take directions from senior staff.
Strong hands-on troubleshooting abilities.
Strong mechanical and/or electrical aptitude.
Ability to read and follow written instructions, diagrams, and schematics.
Ability to configure test setups using basic plumbing and electrical skills.
Ability to clearly communicate observations and test results to other Laboratory Technicians and Engineering Staff.
Competent in the use of a personal computer using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.)
Successfully pass and maintain Hayward forklift certification.
Proficient at using basic measuring instruments.
Team player with strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, and reasoning skills.
Self-motivated and reliable.
Ability to swim.
Candidate must be actively pursuing or recently received a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Sciences from an accredited institution.
