Position Overview
The Recreation Coordinator specializes in planning and organizing recreational activities for Madison County Rural Recreation facilities located at various locations through Madison County. This position requires knowledge of recreation programs and recreation program development for all age groups. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists and participates in the planning, scheduling, and coordination of league play; attends league meetings and promotes programs; calculates the number of teams needed to maximize the use of athletic facilities; participates in the recruitment of teams; assists Parks and recreation director in managing leagues and tournaments. Works closely with the volunteer boards of both recreation centers to foster strong relationships, support program development, and respond to board needs to ensure alignment and community engagement. Meets and consults with tournament and league officials regarding rules and regulations, policies and procedures, and rental and contractual agreements; provides information and resolves conflicts and disputes. Meets with various organizations and businesses to book activities, coordinates events with the appropriate agencies and organizations and with other County departments. Assists in planning, implementing, scheduling, coordinating, and promoting a variety of sports and recreation activities and programs for various age groups; assists in planning and scheduling special events and social activities; assists in conducting camps, clinics, and workshops. Organizes, leads, and coordinates sports and recreation activities for youth, young adult, and adult groups; teaches and instructs participants; meets and confers with youth athletic leagues representatives and oversees and monitors youth athletic activities; promotes good conduct, sportsmanship, and safety; maintains order and discipline; issues and collects sports and recreation equipment. Schedules usage of the facilities; makes reservations, collects fees and issues receipts, make deposits; sets up equipment for regular activities and special events; takes down and stores equipment; supervises and assists with grounds and facilities maintenance. Assists in recruiting, training, supervising and evaluating volunteer workers and temporary workers. Prepares detailed activity and attendance reports to track participation, assess program effectiveness, and support future planning and scheduling of leagues, events, and recreational activities. Promotes and maintains a cooperative relationship with public and private agencies in the neighborhood or community. Serves as the on-site County representative to help ensure all assigned facilities and grounds are continuously maintained to acceptable standards; expected to assist as needed and communicate maintenance concerns promptly to appropriate personnel or boards. Responsible for securing the facility before and after activities, ensuring all doors are locked, equipment is stored properly, and the premises are safe and ready for public use or closure. Education and Experience
Education
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to Graduation from a standard high school; 1-3 years experience working in a recreational facility, preferred. Ability to acquire AFO (Aquatic Facility Operator) certification to manage pool chemical maintenance during seasonal months (summer). A degree in Physical Education, Parks and Recreation Management, or Recreation Administration is preferred.
Other Requirements
Work is performed indoors and outdoors at various recreational facilities where relative risks can occur. Seasonal recreation programs may require additional hours spent within an aquatics environment. Frequently required to walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Life Insurance:
Madison County provides $25,000 in life, $25,000 in accidental death and dismemberment and $25,000 line of duty insurance to eligible employees in certified positions.
Employee Retirement Plans : Employees are required to participate in the Employees Retirement System, which is a Defined Benefit Plan administered through the
Retirement Systems of Alabama
(RSA). Participants contribute 5% to 8.5% of their earnings depending on their hire date and classification. Sworn Certified Personnel have an accelerated contribution schedule

Employee Clinic:
Madison County employees and dependents over age 12 may use the Employee Health Clinic for the low co-pay of $15.00 per visit. To be eligible to use the clinic, the employee and dependent must be enrolled in Madison County's health insurance plan as their primary coverage.
