DFW Main Office 2425 Dillard Street Grand Prairie, TX 75051, USA DFW Main Office 2425 Dillard Street Grand Prairie, TX 75051, USA Job Summary: Polk Mechanical is seeking a dynamic and experienced engineering leader to serve as our Director of Engineering – Mechanical Systems . This pivotal role is responsible for driving technical excellence, innovation, and strategic alignment across all phases of project delivery—from design and preconstruction to field execution and commissioning. As a key member of our leadership team, you will shape engineering standards, mentor high-performing talent, and lead transformative initiatives in Virtual Design & Construction (VDC), modular prefabrication, and Design-Build delivery. Establish and implement engineering best practices, design standards, and quality assurance protocols to support Estimating, VDC (Virtual Design & Construction), and Construction teams. Collaborate with executive leadership to align engineering objectives with organizational strategy, innovation goals, and operational efficiency. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence across engineering, preconstruction, and field operations. Design & Preconstruction Manage internal and third-party engineering services for Design-Build and Delegated Design projects, ensuring coordination, compliance, and constructability. Partner with the Preconstruction team during project pursuits to provide engineering expertise, assess design feasibility, and deliver innovative technical solutions that enhance Polk’s competitive edge. Support VDC efforts by offering technical guidance to ensure BIM models and fabrication drawings meet engineering standards and field constructability requirements. Project Execution & Technical Support Serve as a technical resource for construction teams, offering engineering consultation, problem-solving, and design modifications throughout project execution. Lead or support the commissioning (Cx) and startup processes to ensure seamless project transitions, optimal system performance, and high-quality delivery. Provide engineering oversight for R&D initiatives in modular prefabrication, including the design of mechanical racks, skids, and offsite fabrication systems. Mentor Engineers-in-Training (EITs), particularly those pursuing their Professional Engineer (PE) license, fostering their technical and professional growth. Collaborate with Learning & Development to design and implement internal training programs for engineering and VDC staff. Promote a culture of mentorship and leadership development across all engineering and technical disciplines. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field required; Master’s degree or PE license strongly preferred. Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with substantial experience in Design-Build or construction environments. Demonstrated success in managing engineering teams and external consultants on complex commercial or industrial projects. In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, construction methodologies, and prefabrication strategies. Proficiency with BIM/VDC processes, commissioning/startup procedures, and modular construction techniques. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and mentor technical professionals.
