SUMMARY: Assists in the administration, supervision, coordination, and evaluation of the total school program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Advises and assists department leaders and teachers to improve curriculum and instruction through classroom observation and access to resources. Designs, implements and evaluates programs to prevent student discipline problems; advises and assists team leaders, advisors, supervisory paraprofessionals, counselors, and other staff towards the resolution and correction of student school problems. Identifies areas of need for staff development and assists in the design and implementation of staff development programs. Supervises and evaluates co-curricular and extra-curricular programs. Assists the student council members and faculty advisors in the areas of student government and service and provides for the organization and scheduling of school assemblies, special events, and other student activities. Assists the principal and other staff with communications to parents and the community, and with the development of programs to involve parents and other community members in the school program. Identifies areas where policy or change is needed and assists the principal in developing policy jointly with members of the staff to evaluate the uses and effects of these policies. Assists the principal and school committees to identify appropriate ways to and other factors which will influence the school program. Develops and maintains a calendar of school activities. Conducts research, develops reports, and completes questionnaires and surveys. Manages assigned staff; assigns programmatic responsibilities and projects; resolves workload and technical issues and assures that goals are defined and achieved; develops staff skills and training plans and conducts performance evaluations. Ensures a safe, orderly, and disciplined school environment free from institutionalized racism and discrimination that impedes academic excellence and success for all learners. Promotes and supports the overall mission of the District by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree in Education, or a closely related field. Two (2) years of professional teaching experience. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
Driver’s license. Principal’s license from the State of Minnesota.
Required Knowledge and Skills Required Knowledge:
District policies and procedures. Curriculum requirements and learning objectives. State and Federal laws and regulatory issues governing public education, including rules and regulations of the Minnesota Department of Education. Techniques and practices for efficient and cost-effective management of resources. Legal, ethical and professional rules of conduct for public education administrators. Principles and practices of public sector administrative management, including strategic planning, budgeting, purchasing, contract management, customer service and employee supervision. Local community resources, regional community services programs, and regional training programs. Principles and techniques of making effective oral presentations. Computer applications related to the work. Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation. Required Skills:
Directing and coordinating Hopkins Middle School operations. Understanding and applying educational standards and procedures and Federal and state rules and regulations. Developing and maintaining a public education learning environment in which positive, appropriate behavior is encouraged, and discipline problems are minimized. Planning, organizing, and coordinating the work of school staff. Evaluating workflow and effectively prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Preparing, reviewing and presenting management reports. Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Operating a personal computer using standard and specialized software. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office setting within a school building. Occasional travel required to locations throughout the District.

1.0 HASA Union Contract Salary Range: Step-1: $141,289 Step-2: $145,595 Step-3: $149,901 Step-4: $154,206 Step-5: $158,512
