Position Details
The University of New Mexico School of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery is recruiting a board-certified or board-eligible, Open Rank, Open Track faculty member. The position involves providing half-time pediatric neurosurgery and half-time general neurosurgery care. Join our established pediatric neurosurgery division, which currently includes practicing neurosurgeons and residents.
The University of New Mexico is the only tertiary referral neurosurgical center in the state, serving a population of 2.3 million. There is significant opportunity to grow and expand our practice, focusing on pediatric patients. The department offers comprehensive care for a diverse range of neurological disorders in both pediatric and adult patients. We re-established an ACGME-accredited residency program in 2022. UNM is also the only Level 1 trauma center in the state, and participation in trauma call is expected.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- MD, DO, or equivalent degree
- Completion of an accredited pediatric neurosurgery fellowship
- Board certified or eligible in neurosurgery and pediatric neurosurgery
Preferred Qualifications
- At least two years of academic neurosurgery practice with residents, students, or fellows
- Leadership experience at service line/division chief level
- Excellence in resident education
- Scholarly activity, including publications, research participation, or independent funding
- Strong professionalism and effective communication across specialties
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success
- Interest or experience in other neurosurgical subspecialties
