The Cardiology Technologist performs a variety of non-invasive diagnostic cardiology procedures on Stamford Health patients including stress tests, vascular screening, EKGs, and monitors applications.
Assists with patient check-in, registration, scheduling and charge entry. Works closely with SHMG Cardiology office to coordinate testing.
Responsibilities
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES / CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Prep patients for cardiac stress tests, both nuclear and non-nuclear in conjunction with an RN, APRN, PA or MD. Exhibits understanding of the procedures and prepares patients carefully while insuring their comfort and safety. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining an efficient workflow in the stress lab and will work with the physicians, nuclear tech, nurses and Non-Invasive supervisor daily to ensure the lab is on schedule. Heart monitor placement (Zio, etc.) and 24-Hour blood pressure monitoring application and analysis. Performs ABI/PVR screening using appropriate techniques and protocols. Explains the equipment and procedure to patients before application to ensure a valid study is obtained. Processes charges through the computer system and prepares all exams so they are ready for physician interpretation and final transcription in a timely manner. Maintains patients' records and sends out reports as requested. Assists with the revenue cycle. Maintains EKG, Stress and 24-Hour monitoring equipment in a clean and safe manner. Performs EKG's on patients with a high degree of reliability as to tracing quality and lead placement. Explains the exam to patients and exhibits confidence as to ability and competence in performing the exam. Reports grossly abnormal findings to a physician, APP or nurse immediately when observed. Responds to inpatient orders in a timely fashion. Maintain regulatory compliance standards in the work environment. Order and stock supplies. Perform quality control checks on equipment. Escalate issues to Supervisor or Assistant Nurse Manager. Float to other NICARD location based on staffing needs. Cover front desk duties based on staffing needs.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
High School Graduate or equivalent. Previous medical experience in diagnostic cardiology procedures is preferred. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are desired.
