Overview
Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC), part of Vandalia Health, in Charleston, West Virginia, invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of Pediatrics (Chair). The Chair will lead and support the academic, clinical, and research activities of the rapidly growing department with multiple divisions and an established training program. This is an outstanding opportunity to substantially build upon and establish new clinical and training programs for West Virginia's premier academic medical center.
Charleston Area Medical Center Health System is a nonprofit, 982-bed regional referral center made up of seven hospitals as well as the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine and the CAMC Foundation. More than 1,100 providers are members of the medical and advanced practice staff of CAMC. CAMC prides itself as a leading teaching institution and academic medical center serving the healthcare needs of West Virginia and the surrounding region. Two regional medical school campuses, West Virginia University and West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, are located onsite at CAMC. Additionally, CAMC serves as a major clinical teaching site for other graduate medical education programs and undergraduate health sciences programs, hosting more than 1,000 students on any given day.
Vandalia Health was formed in September 2022 through the combination of CAMC Health System and Mon Health System. Continuing this growth, several hospitals and another system, Davis Health, have also been added. With this extensive network featuring 17 hospitals, providers, outpatient locations, and telemedicine centers, Vandalia Health is providing care across West Virginia with additional locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia.
Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer, the Chair will set a vision across the department for its clinical, educational, and research endeavors. The department currently has more than 20 faculty and an excellent Pediatric Residency Program. The Chair is also accountable to the WVU Medical School Charleston Campus Regional Dean for medical student education and collaborates with divisional and operational leadership to run the clinical mission across all divisions.
The successful candidate will be an accomplished leader in pediatric medicine with a minimum of 5 years' experience as a department chair, division chief, program director, or equivalent clinical leadership role in an academic medical center or equally complex environment. CAMC seeks a dynamic leader who is committed to recruiting and developing faculty, staff, and trainees. Candidates must demonstrate a strong vision for achieving excellence in clinical care and an understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with running a large department within an academic medical center. This is an outstanding opportunity to work with hospital and ambulatory
leadership and build upon existing departmental strengths to enhance clinical outcomes and service line growth.
Candidates must possess an M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree, board certification in pediatrics, and warrant qualification for appointment to Associate or Full Professor through the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine.
Vandalia Health values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity for all persons regardless of age, color, disability, ethnicity, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any other status protected by law.
