Modeling respect, kindness, and integrity in the community of practice. Role Description This is a volunteer Board Member role at Phoenix Conservatory of Music. The Phoenix Conservatory of Music Board of Directors supports the work of PCM and provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance. The PCM Board is a volunteer Board of Directors. While day-to-day operations are led by PCM's Executive Director, the Board-Executive Director relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. This role is pivotal in steering our organization towards sustained growth and success. Key Responsibilities: Determine the organization's mission and purpose. Ensure the organization has a modern statement which is periodically reviewed for adequacy, accuracy, and viability. Create and implement a strategic plan to guide the organization's future, ensure the organization is effective, and meets the mission. The plan defines goals, assigns responsibilities, and monitors progress. Provide strategic guidance and oversight in the areas of governance, finance, outreach, and development. Collaborate with fellow board members and senior management to develop and implement long-term goals and strategies that meet the organizational mission and strengthened donor relationships. Leverage experience in non-profit organizations, music, youth development organizations, and/or a passion for arts education to inform strategies and objectives. Ensure compliance with legal, financial, and regulatory requirements, maintaining the highest standards of governance and integrity. Selecting, supporting, and evaluating the performance of the Executive Director. Approving and monitoring the organization's programs and services. Assessing board performance as the governing body of the organization. Ensuring adequate resources through fundraising and resource development. Advocate for the organization, serve as a model of its values, and enhance the organization's public image. Follow the organization's bylaws, policies, and board resolutions. Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization. Board Terms and Participation PCM's Board is a volunteer board, and members do not receive monetary compensation. Members will serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term. Board meetings will be held every other month, and committee meetings will be held on the odd months. Regular meeting participation is required either in person or virtually. Reviews agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings. Serve on committees or task forces and take on special assignments, as necessary. Board members are encouraged to attend PCMs regular onsite events at our Phoenix, AZ location,. Education and Experiences Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, philanthropy, the arts, or the nonprofit sector. A commitment to and understanding of PCM's beneficiaries Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of PCM's beneficiaries. Working experience focusing on Positive Social Impact and/or ESG business practices.
