is looking for an individual to join their team as a
Recycling Specialist I ! This position is directly involved with development, implementation and management of island wide recycling programs to include public education and outreach. Apply today!
Duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Receiving orientation in the functions, goals, and objectives of the City’s island-wide recycling and waste reduction programs; learning the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, guidelines, and work processes that govern or impact the City’s recycling and waste reduction programs; Assisting in performing a wide range of assignments related to developing, implementing, and coordinating island-wide recycling and waste reduction programs, including managing and developing recycling programs and coordinating and implementing recycling projects; adhering to applicable safety practices, rules, and procedures, and performing all duties safely and appropriately to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, and the general public; Assisting in developing educational programs and promotional materials to support recycling activities; assisting in disseminating pertinent recycling materials to schools, community groups, associations, industries, and businesses; attend various community events for public outreach activities to promote recycling and proper waste disposal; Under close supervision and following specific instructions, assisting in managing contracts associated with assigned projects; operating a motor vehicle to inspect operations and recycling contractors as needed; After receiving training, operating a motor vehicle to assist in conducting on-site investigations of neighborhoods and facilities—such as apartment buildings, multi-family complexes, office buildings, hotels, restaurants, and hospitals—to determine recycling feasibility and system design, and to ensure compliance with recycling laws and disposal regulations; Conducting research, assisting in preparing reports and correspondence, and responding to inquiries from businesses, community organizations, waste and recycling industries, and the general public in support of numerous recycling programs and activities; Performing other related duties.
Special Work Requirement: Work schedule is from 7:45 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. May also be required to work overtime, weekends, nights and holidays based on operational needs. Will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies.
Career Progression
The Recycling Specialist I is the starting level in the Recycling Specialist job series. A Recycling Specialist I (SR-16) may progress up the career ladder with satisfactory work experience and demonstration of applicable knowledge and skills up to a Recycling Specialist IV (SR-22). There may be promotional opportunities above the Recycling Specialist IV level or in other areas based on the skill sets and experience attained from employment in this series.
