Chief Legal Officer – Real Estate Debt
Location: On-site in Palm Beach County, FL (Relocation Assistance Available)
A privately held investment firm with a diverse portfolio of holdings across real estate development, structured finance, and asset management is seeking a highly motivated attorney to join its executive team. This is a strategic legal and business-facing role, ideal for a senior attorney with deep experience in complex transactions and real estate finance.
About the Opportunity:
The firm operates across multiple verticals, including real estate development, distressed investing, and capital markets. This position will serve as a critical in-house resource for structuring deals, advising on risk, managing outside counsel, and supporting the company’s growth and investment strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as legal and business advisor for real estate finance and joint venture transactions from origination through closing
- Structure and negotiate a range of complex financing agreements (bridge, mezzanine, mortgage, and JV deals)
- Partner with internal teams and external counsel to assess risk, develop transaction strategy, and oversee closings
- Provide legal oversight for asset management functions, including borrower and guarantor compliance, reporting, and restructuring
- Advise on distressed asset workouts and restructurings
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders (banks, brokers, developers, investors)
- Stay current on regulatory issues and ensure legal compliance across business lines
- Promote communication and workflow efficiency across departments
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school (MBA or finance background a plus)
- 10+ years of experience in real estate and/or real estate finance, preferably within top-tier law firms, investment firms, or development companies
- Experience with UHNW lending, private banking, or credit structuring strongly preferred
- Deep knowledge of commercial real estate finance and related legal documentation
- Ability to navigate high-stakes negotiations and work closely with cross-functional teams
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
