REPORTS TO: Environmental Operations Manager
POSITION CONCEPT:
To serve the mission, vision, and values of REH, Inc., by maintaining Ruth Eckerd Hall, The Bilheimer Capitol Theatre, and The BayCare Sound in a clean, safe, and attractive manner, including but not limited to sanitizing, cleaning, floor care, dusting, the set-up of special events, and minor maintenance items. Shift assignments at any of the three venues are possible for this position.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
- Clean and maintain building facilities.
- Perform the necessary room setups for scheduled events.
- Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors using cleaning solutions, tools, and equipment.
- Clean walls, ceilings, windows, and building fixtures as needed.
- Dust furniture, walls, and other equipment.
- Clean walkways, parking lots, and steps daily.
- Gather and empty the trash.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms using established practices and procedures.
- Apply wax or sealers to wood, VCT, or concrete floors.
- Notify the manager of the need to order materials or supplies.
- Notify the manager of repairs or additions needed to the building's operating systems.
- Perform minor maintenance items such as replacing light bulbs or tubes, switch or outlet covers, and ceiling tiles.
- Clean air-conditioning and heating ventilation grills as needed.
- Use a power lift to perform some tasks up to 40 feet.
- Pressure-wash sidewalks and walls as needed.
- Maintain an inventory of suitable custodial supplies in assigned work areas.
- Execute assigned tasks and/or work orders in a timely and efficient manner.
- Comply with company safety policies and OSHA safety standards, including the use of personal protective equipment as necessary.
- Maintain a means of communication in case of an emergency.
- Maintain a courteous and respectful demeanor with co-workers, vendors, and patrons.
- Submit work orders to Environmental Operations by telephone or computer.
- Ability to learn and apply new methods in cleaning and techniques, new products, first aid, CPR, and working relationships.
- Must be able to work overnight hours of 11 p.m.–7 a.m.
- Perform related duties as required.
Experience and Education:
- High school diploma or the equivalent is required.
- Three years’ experience as a custodian in an institutional, hospitality, or healthcare setting.
Demonstrated Skills or Knowledge:
- Support and enforce all policies of Ruth Eckerd Hall, governmental agencies such as OSHA, the local fire department having jurisdiction, and life safety 101.
- Working knowledge of the proper operation of equipment is essential to completing your assigned duties.
- Ability to learn and apply proper procedures for cleaning and maintaining resilient tile floors, carpeted floors, and painted concrete floors.
- Working knowledge and proper use of mixing chemicals used in the cleaning process.
- Working knowledge and proper use of personal protective gear.
- Basic skills when using email and the internet.
- Ability to learn and use custodial/maintenance tracking software.
- Ability to multi-task and be successful in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to listen and communicate information and ideas verbally and effectively.
- Ability to apply general rules to specific problems and produce effective solutions based on the given situation.
- Ability to relate to a diverse group of people, work within a team environment, and develop and maintain positive working relationships.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs.
- Ability to work in confined or high spaces.
- Ability to carry out required tasks that include bending, twisting, lifting, etc. safely.
- Ability to operate a computer terminal.
- Ability to access all areas of the facility.
- Ability to work outdoors in various climates.
- Ability to work long and irregular hours.
- Ability to work overnight hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to maintain good attendance.
Other:
- Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
- Successful completion of a background check, drug screen, and physical test.
