This is starting out as a contract position running through October 2025 with strong potential to extend longer or convert to FTE. Hybrid role in Irving, TX
Job Description: A SQL DBA (or database administrator) manages the SQL server to successfully store, organize, and access data. SQL Server DBAs usually oversee a team of SQL developers and need to be skilled with computer programming, software engineering, and data architecture and management. SQL DBAs analyze an organization's data management, input, and security needs, and help develop tools that support data access and information security.
While the SQL DBA only writes code on occasion, they do play an important role in optimizing SQL queries and oversee backups and audits to ensure that SQL databases remain accessible, secure, and stable.
Essential functions: • Participate in disaster recovery design, testing and execution • Monitor and evaluate database performance and adjust database configuration as appropriate • Provide technical leadership to other DBAs • Design process for database change management issues related to environment migration • Make complex physical changes to current databases, often this requires working after hours • Maintain operational documentation (e.g., procedures, task lists, architecture blueprints) • Provide subject matter expertise to corporate projects and initiatives • Work with users and IT partners to understand requirements for a physical database design • Provide database consulting expertise to corporate projects and initiatives • Address customer concerns and issues related to database management • Evaluate database performance and adjust configuration appropriately • Provide production support for outages, restore/recovery events • Optimize implementation of system design in order to optimize performance and effectiveness while realizing the optimum technical issues. • Write basic programming/scripts
Requirements: • Knowledge of and experience with IT industry database technologies, hardware architecture, operating systems, third party database tools, performance monitoring tools and backup and recovery concepts; database systems development practices and n-tier application architecture and related web technologies. • Operational experience implementing and maintaining a database including backup and recovery procedures • Demonstrated understanding of all aspects of the operating system's features, functions and behaviors. • Knowledge of and experience using project management methodologies and its concepts and tools as a project member and or functional leader. • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in the following: SQL programming; use and support of MS SQL; entity relationship modeling using an ER tool; multi-dimensional modeling; translating strategic IT user requirements into specific database capabilities. • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in the design, development and implementation of the following: large database environments for decision support and OLTP; parallel database environments for scalability and high availability and business applications (e.g., ERP, CRM) with integrated database technologies. • Ability to work flexible hours in order to perform database administration tasks. • Experience as a System Administrator and/or Developer • Healthcare industry knowledge. • Experience using Agile methodology
Required Experience: 5 or more years of Professional experience as a database administrator on the Microsoft operating system platform
Required Education: Related Bachelor's degree in an IT related field or relevant work experience
Musts: - Strong MS SQL DBA experience/Tuning - Must be located Irving, TX
Preferred: -Healthcare (strongly preferred)
