We are an in-office company, and our expectation is that employees primarily work from their Applied Intuition office 5 days a week. However, we also recognize the importance of flexibility and trust our employees to manage their schedules responsibly. This may include occasional remote work, starting the day with morning meetings from home before heading to the office, or leaving earlier when needed to accommodate family commitments. (Note: For EpiSci job openings, fully remote work will be considered by exception.)

About The Role
As an RL/ML Software Engineer at EpiSci on the Cognitive Sensing and Radio Frequency team, your role is pivotal and will play a significant role in designing, developing, and implementing state of the art estimation and adaptive control algorithms with our mission to deliver advanced AI/ML technologies. This position requires extensive expertise in reinforcement learning, machine learning, and software development in both C++ and Python.
At EpiSci, you will:
- Develop novel model-based reinforcement learning algorithms for multi-agent systems
- Integrate and deploy algorithms for integration and field testing events.
- Write autonomy software that operates group 1-5 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)
- Create simulated models to accomplish tactical military missions
- Design models that use techniques from adaptive control theory and estimation
- Master’s or PhD degree in machine learning/reinforcement learning with autonomy and robotics applications or closely related field
- Experience developing model-based and model-free reinforcement learning algorithms
- Hands-on experience with behavior prediction, intent estimation and behavior prediction
- Experience taking new autonomy capabilities from ideation through fielding
- Experience developing in Docker and containerized development environments
- Strong programming skills in languages such as C, C++, and Python, Linux-based operating systems (e.g., RHEL, Ubuntu)
- Must be willing to travel as projects required; estimated average travel is once every quarter for between 2 days up to 1 week (~10%)
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Experience leveraging building, and improving modeling and simulation environments
- Experience with AFSIM, NGTS, AirSim, PX4/MAVLink, QGC, TAK, etc
- Familiarity with estimation frameworks like Kalman, Extended Kalman and particle filter
- Familiarity with control methods like PID and adaptive control
- Passion for solving complex problems with little supervision in a fast-moving team
Applied Intuition pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum intended target base salary for new hire salaries for the position. The actual base salary offered to a successful candidate will additionally be influenced by a variety of factors including experience, credentials & certifications, educational attainment, skill level requirements, interview performance, and the level and scope of the position.
Please reference the job posting’s subtitle for where this position will be located. For pay transparency purposes, the base salary range for this full-time position in the location listed is: $150,000 to $180,000 USD annually.
