PURPOSE
To establish a list of eligible candidates that will be used to fill current substitute needs and future vacancies (part-time, full-time, permanent and temporary) for the duration of the list, up to six months. Immediate needs are for temporary substitute assignments.
Our Custodian assignment hours vary as we have day and night shifts. For the summer months (when school is not in session), all assignments are day shifts.
APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR THIS RECRUITMENT PROCESS:

TESTING PROCESS:
A) Multiple Choice Test = 40% weighting on final score. Tentatively scheduled for: May 19, 2025
B) Structured Interview = 60% weighting on final score. Tentatively scheduled for: as early as the week of May 26, 2025
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications stated in the job posting by the application deadline in order to move forward in the testing process. Those with the highest scores on the multiple choice test will be invited to the structured interview. The testing process is subject to change as needs dictate. Purpose Statement
Under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor, performs a variety of custodial duties to maintain assigned school and district facilities in a clean, orderly, and secure condition.
Distinguishing Characteristics
A Custodian performs a variety of custodial duties. In comparison, a Lead Custodian leads custodial teams and projects; provides training, guidance, and work direction to lower-level custodians; and assists in coordinating custodial staffing, projects, communications, and work activities; in addition to performing the duties of a Custodian.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
Cleans and disinfects a variety of facilities (e.g. classrooms, labs, offices, meeting rooms, kitchens, eating areas, play areas, hallways, walkways, stairways), including furniture, fixtures, equipment, flooring, walls, surfaces, and windows.
Sweeps, scrubs, mops, washes, and polishes floors; vacuums rugs and carpets and spot cleans as necessary.
Cleans and disinfects restrooms, including floors, walls, stalls, sinks, toilets, urinals, mirrors, and other restroom fixtures; polishes metal fixtures; maintains restroom supplies (e.g. paper towels, soap, toilet paper).
Empties and cleans waste and recycling receptacles; picks up trash and debris; picks up trash and recycling containers and empties into large bins.
Rearranges, moves, and sets up furniture and equipment in meeting rooms, classrooms, multi-purpose rooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, theaters, athletic fields, and other facilities for special meetings, functions, and events according to instructions and seating arrangements.
Secures and opens the site, including closing/opening and locking/unlocking internal and external entry and exit points (e.g. doors, gates, windows), turning lights off/on, raising and lowering flags, and setting alarms as required.
Inspects and observes the site for safety, sanitary, and security concerns; resolves and reports concerns as appropriate; responds to emergency custodial needs as required.
Participates in major cleaning projects such as carpet cleaning and floor stripping and refinishing.
Inspects assigned tools and equipment for proper operating condition; performs minor maintenance and repairs to maintain tools and equipment in proper working condition.
Performs minor non-technical maintenance and repair of buildings, furniture, and fixtures; refers complex and technical maintenance and repairs to appropriate personnel.
Restocks supplies and storage areas; picks up and distributes mail, parcels, and a variety of classroom, office, and custodial supplies and materials to and from district sites and within a school site.
Maintains documentation (e.g. material safety data sheets, documentation of work activities, product container labels) pertaining to assignment.
Assists with special projects pertaining to maintenance and grounds.
Other Functions Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Custodial experience, or previous work experience performing duties similar to those listed above, is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid California driver's license

Working Environment
Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment where significant health and safety considerations exist from physical labor and handling of materials that include waste and bloodborne pathogens.
