Job Description: Head Gunsmith (Experienced Rifle Technician)

Position Overview:
Snowy Mountain Rifle Company, an innovator in the precision rifle sector, is seeking a Master Gunsmith to lead and refine our Gunsmithing Department. The ideal candidate will possess a deep passion and curiosity for bolt action firearms, a commitment to precision and safety, and a desire to work in a dynamic and forward-thinking environment. This position requires advanced knowledge of gunsmithing techniques, protocols, and the use of specialized hand tools.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Barrel Work: Chamber, thread, headspace, and assemble barrel blanks to finished barreled actions.
- Custom Rifle Assembly: Build and assemble custom rifles from finished or semi-finished components.
- Precision Metalwork: Fit, deburr, size, finish, and assemble precision metal parts.
- Stock Work: Accurately inlet and bed metal parts into wood and synthetic stocks, and perform exterior finish work on synthetic stocks.
- Diagnostics and Repair: Diagnose problems, test, troubleshoot, and repair firearms; repair or replace various types of stocks and fore ends.
- Machining: Perform precision metal machining including milling, lathe turning, grinding, drilling, and tapping.
- Record Keeping: Use a computer reporting system to keep production orders, custom projects, and customer profiles updated.
- Show Preparation: Prepare firearms for shows and demonstrations.
- Customer Interaction: Answer technical questions from customers and other departments.
- Work Environment: Maintain a clean work environment and keep accurate records of daily work.
- Teamwork: Demonstrate quality leadership and be an effective team player.
Education and Experience:
- Required: Possess a 2-year degree in Gunsmithing or equivalent.
Competencies:
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Familiarity and experience with precision metalworking, rifle building, and gunsmithing.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to complete daily work accurately.
- High proficiency with basic hand tools such as files, drills, scrapers, and rotary tools.
- Adaptability to change work focus as needed.
- Self-directed with a proven track record of staying on task and working diligently.
- Excellent eyesight with or without correction, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Physical capability to regularly stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Able to consistently move/maneuver weights of 35 to 75 pounds and occasionally lift weights of 35 to 45 pounds.
- Physical aspects require bending, stooping, squatting, and standing on concrete floors for long periods.
Hours and Location:
- Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM with a one-hour lunch break.
- Travel: Ability to travel to shows or events as needed.
Work Environment:
- The employee will not be exposed to weather conditions while performing job duties.
- Exposure to the manufacturing environment includes fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level can be loud.
