Compensation: Refer to current teacher salary scale on District website
Work Year: 11 months
Position Goal: The Special Programs Coordinator has the primary responsibility for monitoring, supporting, and improving instructional and programmatic practices occurring for special education specialized programs in the Colonial School District. The coordinator will assist school teams in the planning and implementation of instructional programs and curriculums, monitor program effectiveness, and provide professional learning. The Special Programs Coordinator will also be responsible for aligning special programs across grade bands while working with school staff to collaborate and sustain the vision for the program(s).
Minimum Requirements:
- Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Abuse Registry in the State of Delaware.
- Must hold current and valid certification as a Teacher of Special Education K-12 in the State of Delaware.
- Master's Degree in School Leadership or Special Education required.
- Successfully completed a minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching, in which working with Intense/Complex SWD was a primary responsibility of the position.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws regulating Special Education.
- Demonstrated excellence in teacher and/or coaching leadership roles is preferred (collaborative, action research, improvement science, reflection, and student advocacy).
- Adhere to the belief that all students can succeed and demonstrates the commitment to do what is necessary to make this a reality.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues, building administrators, and community members.
- Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, manage, and evaluate teams within a school and across schools within the district that works collaboratively to promote high expectations for all students.
- Expertise using assessment data to develop targeted Individual Education Programs (IEPs).
- Deep knowledge of special education instructional techniques and strategies for differentiating the general education curriculum, including adapting and modifying curriculum that is aligned to the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM).
- Must possess a demonstrated, strong knowledge of and experience with providing accommodations, adaptations, and modifications to best support students with disabilities.
- Proficient in Technology, such as Microsoft and Google Applications, Classlink, Schoology, PowerSchool IEP, eSchool, etc.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate and manage targeted special education programs, ensuring compliance with regulations and alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Provide instructional leadership by developing and implementing a coordinated mission and vision for specialized programs, supporting staff in its execution.
- Design and lead targeted professional development for special education staff across multiple grade bands.
- Collaborate with school/district administration, families, and external agencies to improve academic and behavioral outcomes for students with disabilities.
- Coach and consult with teachers and paraprofessionals on academic interventions, classroom management, and implementation of effective interventions.
- Identify and develop appropriate curricular resources needed for successful implementation of IEPs.
- Serves as a liaison between students, parents, teachers, and administrators to facilitate successful extended school year experiences. Responsible for ensuring that students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) receive appropriate educational services and support during summer programming (12 month programming).
- Participate in collaborative team meetings to support the creation and implementation of Individual Education Programs.
- Support school teams with data analysis to inform IEPs and promote student success.
- Implement highly specialized, explicit, and intensive interventions that provide ample practice opportunities for student growth.
- Serve as a resource to school administrators on programmatic matters including staffing, student behavior, scheduling, and curriculum.
- Support teachers and teams during Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to enhance instructional practices and program effectiveness.
- Collaborate with special education colleagues to stay current with best practices and program development.
- Perform other duties as requested by Student Services leadership to meet district needs.
