Software Asset Management Analyst

Special Requirements
The HII Software Asset Management (SAM) Specialist is responsible for managing software licenses, ensuring compliance, and maintaining vendor relationships within the Vendor Management organization. The role involves collaboration with internal and external teams to track software assets, maintain compliance, and implement best practices for software asset management, including procedures for tracking assets within a Software Asset Management tool. The individual will assist in developing procurement strategies to optimize technology spend.
The position involves establishing and implementing standards and processes for software acquisition, protection, maintenance, and renewal. It includes evaluating software products based on user requirements, coordinating with procurement to select and negotiate with vendors, and reviewing licenses and contracts to ensure proper documentation and coverage.
The candidate must have excellent analytical skills, with expert knowledge of software license metrics and product use rights, and experience with SAM tools such as USU License Management or ServiceNow SAM Pro.
Responsibilities:
Analyze software asset data to create reports that promote compliance, cost savings, and strategic harvesting.
Reconcile license entitlements with installations or demand data to assess license positions.
Review software usage reports and recommend remediation for underutilized or non-compliant assets.
Develop or evaluate best practices for software acquisition, deployment, and retirement, including policies and procedures.
Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all software assets, including versions and installations.
Have specialized knowledge of vendors such as Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, IBM, VMware, Adobe, etc.
Conduct audits and True-Ups to reconcile licenses and limit exposure.
Manage audits, including analysis, reporting, and documentation, ensuring best outcomes.
Utilize SAM tools to develop dashboards and compliance reports for key vendors.
Support Hardware Asset Management as needed.

Bachelor's Degree in IT, Business Administration, or related field with 5 years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with 2 years of experience.
Expertise in software licensing terms, conditions, and their application in physical and virtual environments.
Experience with IT Asset Management systems such as Altiris, SmartTrack, HP Asset Management, or SAM Pro.
Understanding of licensing impacts on Data Center, Server, Cloud, and Virtualization environments.
Knowledge of product use rights for major publishers.
Advanced skills in Excel and analytical reporting.
Organized, responsive, and thorough problem solver.
Ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment.
IAITAM or CSAM certification is a plus.
