This is an opportunity to lead a global privacy, data protection, and artificial intelligence (AI) legal team that tackles some of the most complex questions at the intersection of this growing body of laws, especially as they impact our asset management business. This attorney will be responsible for providing legal advice and counsel regarding privacy, data protection, and AI matters for the T. Rowe Price family of companies. This position requires in-depth knowledge of privacy, data protection, and AI laws and their practical application. This team works with a variety of business, compliance, risk, and legal associates across the globe dealing with novel legal and regulatory issues and helping to incorporate privacy, data protection, and AI considerations into everything we do in service of our mission. Responsibilities
We are seeking a Managing Legal Counsel - Privacy, Data Protection & Artificial Intelligence (AI) for our industry-leading program. This role will work closely with highly collaborative, cross-functional teams throughout our firm. Management:
Lead global team of privacy, data protection, and AI attorneys. Coordinate with other legal department subject matter experts. Contract Support:
Partner with other T. Rowe Price legal teams on matters relating to privacy, data protection, and AI during contract negotiations with T. Rowe Price's suppliers as well as customers. Product Counseling:
Advise T. Rowe Price's business teams on privacy-by-design best practices, including providing actionable advice on data privacy, data use, and data security requirements. Evaluate and provide strategic advice to internal business clients on the use of AI, including the risks and benefits for teams across the firm, including evaluating proposed AI use cases. Support for Governance Programs:
Provide counsel and support to governance programs in the areas of privacy, data protection, and AI, including policy reviews, policy updates, assessment management, and audit support. The attorney will play a significant role in shaping and maturing AI policies, providing strategic advice and risk assessments to clients regarding their use of AI, and participating in industry advocacy concerning AI laws and regulations. Cross-Functional Support:
Coordinate with cross-functional partners such as our global privacy, information security, and human resources teams on privacy, data protection, and AI related issue management. Also provide support for appropriate intra-company cross-border data transfer agreements. Incident Management Support:
Provide counsel and support for the assessment and handling of potential privacy and data protection incidents, including analysis of relevant laws and practices, as well as drafting of internal and external communications and potential regulatory filings. Awareness:
Maintain awareness of laws and regulations across the globe impacting such matters and proactively advise T. Rowe Price's business teams on the impact of developments in the law. Regulatory Affairs:
Engage and support T. Rowe Price's leadership in privacy and AI-focused industry groups. Qualifications
Required: J.D. from an accredited school of law. Licensed to practice law in Maryland or another state. Attorney with 10+ years of total relevant work experience. Experience advising clients on U.S. data privacy laws and data collection and use matters. Preferred: Agility and willingness to broaden areas of expertise. Excellent written and oral communication skills; technical and operational competence. Ability to collaborate with multiple teams simultaneously, and to communicate actionable advice to both business and technology teams about complex legal considerations. Experience in review and negotiation of data processing terms suitable for a global firm, both with external clients of the firm’s products and services and with the firm’s external suppliers. Experience advising clients within the asset management/financial services industries is a plus. Work Flexibility This role is eligible for hybrid work, with up to two days per week from home.
