How this role drives the company forward:
The Director, Web and E-Commerce Platforms is responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and tactical execution of Takara Bio's website and e-commerce platforms. In this role, the Director will manage the planning and development of Takara Bio's website, providing technical leadership to the web development team and working cross-functionally with other teams within the organization, such as Product Management/Market Strategy, Digital Marketing, Sales, Finance, and IT to maximize customer engagement with the website and drive online sales.
The Director, Web and E-Commerce Platforms must develop and maintain a deep understanding of the company's customers and market requirements to ensure the effectiveness of the website and all e-commerce initiatives. This includes knowledge about changing trends, industry best practices, and working with third-party contractors who provide specialized services to Takara Bio. It also includes working closely with Takara Bio affiliate teams to ensure the new website meets all regional-specific needs and requirements.

As the Director, Web and E-Commerce Platforms, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our digital presence and driving our online sales strategy. Your leadership will be instrumental in enhancing user experience, optimizing e-commerce operations, and increasing revenue through innovative web solutions. You will lead the planning and development of a new, state-of-the-art website that enhances user experience and supports our e-commerce goals. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies and data-driven insights, you will ensure our platforms are robust, scalable, and aligned with our business goals and customer needs. Your efforts will directly contribute to our growth, customer satisfaction, and market leadership in the digital space.
What will you do: Lead and direct a team to manage all aspects of the new Takara Bio website, including project planning, implementation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and design objectives. Develop, plan, and execute a detailed project roadmap, ensuring the new website goes live according to schedule and meets company objectives. Manage a team to develop and maintain web content, including direct employees and third-party developers (contractors), to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. This includes developing wireframes, concept design mockups, and clickable prototypes to illustrate the best-in-class UX/UI and design for digital properties. Provide technical support and troubleshooting for website-related issues, ensuing website security and data protection measures are in place and up-to-date. Develop a web governance strategy and roadmap that leverages features across the whole tech stack, continually incorporating current website and e-commerce best practices. Responsible for developing and owning the web and e-commerce customer experience (CX), aligning with other departments, and supporting company objectives. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the e-commerce platform, including product listings, inventory management, and order processing. Manage integrations with accounts to enable cXML, OSN, and EDI interchange for invoicing, ordering, and punch-out via various e-commerce platforms, including, but not limited to, Ariba, Jaggaer, Coupa, and Tungsten. Responsible for managing the e-commerce integration team, communicating regularly with the sales team on new customer integrations, and strategizing how to grow our presence on different platforms. Ability to identify, evaluate, recommend, and implement new technologies that are beneficial to the digital goals of the organization. Skilled in balancing technical needs and requirements with business objectives and consulting with stakeholders on shaping and scoping key initiatives, including localization and SEO Responsible for regular communication with the leadership team to discuss direction, strategy, and priorities. This position has supervisory responsibilities. How will you get here?
Requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Technology (IT) or Computer Science with 18+ years of related experience, including 10 years prior experience managing other team members. Demonstrated hands-on experience developing websites, preferably for a life science company or within the life science market. Experience in managing a team responsible for Web Development, Search Engine Marketing, e-commerce, digital marketing, CMS or similar is required. Deep technical knowledge of current web development technologies, UI/UX and web/CX, content platforms, marketing automation, CRM's, Salesforce, etc. Hands-on experience with automated ordering and e-procurement systems such as Ariba, Jaggaer, Coupa, and Tungsten. Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other relevant web development languages and frameworks. Expertise in scripting/programming languages such as Perl or Python and knowledge of XML, cXML is required. Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and compliance standards in the life science sector. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. The US base salary range for this full-time position, expected to be located in San Jose, CA, is $210,000 - $225,000 USD. This range may be modified at any time at our sole discretion.
