Teledyne Qioptiq Electronic Solutions (“QES”) is an advanced electronics business that provides custom energetics, including electronic safe & arm devices, high-voltage semiconductor switches and rubidium frequency standards for defense and space applications, weapons sights and surveillance products.
Our facility in Miamsiburg, OH is looking for a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer (ME). A strong background in machining is preferred. Responsibilities focus on work instruction development, process validation and process improvements in a low volume, high mix environment that requires strong problem-solving and communication skills. Additional processes may include mechanical assembly, electronics soldering and assembly, epoxy encapsulation, ceramic-to-metal sealing, tracer gas leak testing, machining, and welding. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a cross functional environment and will be reporting to the Director of Operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creates and modifies work instructions as necessary to document critical to quality process characteristics and establish appropriate process controls;
- Trains production operators as required;
- Handles multiple projects;
- Performs any and all required coordination with other operations to ensure schedules are met, quality is maintained, and manufacturing costs are minimized;
- Provides support and process development for machining applications involving close tolerance glass/ceramic to metal piece parts;
- May assist to train production machinists and other employees related to specific program work;
- May assist the machining group in the setup of various CNC and Manual machines and assist in trouble shooting machining issues, fixture design and giving recommendations/direction as necessary;
- Investigates process and manufacturing problems during fabrication, test, and assembly operations and initiates corrective actions;
- Reviews engineering designs for manufacturing feasibility and recommends design changes that will enhance production and eliminate variation;
- Supports design development concepts and builds;
- Recommends reductions in production cost by undertaking make/buy, value engineering studies;
- Improves and streamlines processes by eliminating waste and implementing cost saving ideas;
- Ensures a safe work environment by building safety into work instructions, and monitoring accident investigation and other safety-related activities in the work area;
- When appropriate conducting a job hazard analysis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.S. degree in an engineering discipline and/or machining certificate is preferred;
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment;
- Experience with G-Code and CNC Programing is desired;
- Previous experience working with CNC Okuma Crown L1060 lathe is desired;
- Strong understanding/experience of blueprints and GD&T;
- Strong understanding/experience of gauging and measurement techniques and equipment is a plus;
- Supervisory experience in a manufacturing role is a plus;
- Fixture and tooling design experience is a plus;
- Experience using DFMEA, PFMEA and DFA/DFM methodologies;
- Proactive communication and interpersonal skills while working in cross-functional teams;
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills;
- Green or Black Belt certification is a plus;
