Frederick A. Horner M.D. Distinguished Professor in Pediatric Neurology . The incoming leader will participate in direct patient care and will play a key role in advancing the clinical, research, and education missions of the University of Rochester Medical Center, Department of Neurology. The Chief will work closely with research center leadership to foster clinical and translational research. Division of Child Neurology
provides leading-edge neurological care, combining advanced subspecialty expertise with cutting-edge treatments, emphasizing access, quality, and excellence. It offers services by nationally recognized physicians with extensive training and regional experience. The division currently has 22 faculty physicians, 2 neuropsychologists, 1 genetic counselor, 7 advanced practice providers, 3 nurses, 2 research coordinators, a dietitian, and a social worker, providing multidisciplinary care at the
Golisano Children’s Hospital . The catchment area extends beyond Pennsylvania into Vermont, Buffalo, and surrounding regions, with approximately 10,000 outpatient visits annually. The division collaborates closely with the Departments of Neurology and Pediatrics and includes subspecialty programs in movement disorders, neuromuscular disease, epilepsy, neurogenetics, neurodevelopmental disabilities, neurocritical care, neuro-infectious disease, and more. It is the largest Child Neurology program in NY State, providing national and international care for complex neurological diseases, including rare disorders. URMC Neuroscience investigators lead in experimental therapeutics, rare disease research, gene therapy trials, and training early investigators. The division supports programs in Batten’s disease, spinal muscular atrophy, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and others, with collaborations supporting clinical trial readiness for innovative therapies. Education is central to the department. The Child Neurology Residency program has recently expanded and is highly ranked nationally. The division also offers several subspecialty fellowships, often combined with research training, supported by programs like the NINDS-funded T32. Qualifications Must possess an MD degree or equivalent Must obtain NYS Medical licensure before starting Eligible for a Faculty Appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Board Certified in Neurology with Special Qualifications in Child Neurology Post-offer Drug Screen and Health Assessment required Criminal background check required Compliance with University and New York State health requirements Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
