Saint Monica Preparatory (SMPREP), a coeducational parish TK-12 day school in the heart of Santa Monica, seeks an experienced and enthusiastic educator to join our dynamic faculty. We offer a college preparatory curriculum for students of diverse abilities, cultures, and faiths, with a strong emphasis on Gold Standard Project-Based Learning (PBL).
In this exciting role, you will:
- Teach: Lead engaging freshman-level Biology courses using our NGSS-based PBL curriculum.
- Lead: Direct and facilitate independent student research in our Mariner Ocean Research Institute, fostering a love of scientific inquiry.
- Publish: Guide students in conducting research of publishing quality, contributing to real-world scientific understanding.
- Cultivate: Create an inclusive, collaborative, and rigorous learning environment that encourages curiosity and develops essential scientific skills.

Requirements
Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Continual development and effective implementation of a NGSS-based PBL biology curriculum.
- Maintain a marine biology research laboratory and facilitate independent student research.
- Cultivate an inclusive, collaborative, and rigorous learning environment for freshmen that builds the foundational skills and habits of mind necessary for the success of all high school science students.
- Create an environment in all areas of extra-curricular responsibility that nurtures the development of the whole student.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum five years of high school teaching experience in the biological sciences.
- Demonstrated experience directing independent research by students.
- Knowledge of marine science.
Desired Qualifications:
- California Teaching Credential OR Master’s Degree in the biological sciences.
- Experience teaching in a Catholic school environment.

Wage Range:
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
